The Clontarf Academy

Clontarf News
We have hit the ground running in Term three with the appointment of Operations Officer Matthew Porter who is settling into the role nicely. We visited Bunnings Shellharbour for our first employment visit where the boys were surprised by the variety of jobs within the franchise and how happy everyone was to be working there. We have also partnered up with our local PCYC for boxing each Friday morning getting good numbers to training. Our re-engagement camp to the local Killalea State Park also took place where the boys all got a chance to learn some useful skills including leadership and bushcraft. The boys were also surprised how much they enjoyed the simple things like a campfire and going without Fortnight wasn’t so hard after all.
NAIDOC Week
NAIDOC WEEK – Voice, Treaty, Truth.
Our annual NAIDOC celebrations were a perfect way to end Term 2, with the festivities running throughout all of Week 10. The week began with a whole school formal assembly, displaying the incredible talents of the Black Swans singing group accompanied by Mr Davison and Aboriginal Dancer – Riley McElhone. The assembly and performances were enjoyed and appreciated by the Aboriginal Community and also by the respectful student audience.
The rest of the week’s activities saw the first Clontarf academy exhibition Touch Football match – LIHS Vs. Kanahooka High, a family and community BBQ hosted by the Clontarf boys, the annual Staff Damper Showdown and a variety of cultural experiences for Year 7, 8 and 9. The experiences our students participated in included: Boomerang designs, dot painted feathers and chalk murals for Year 7, Yulunga Indigenous Games for Year 8 and traditional ‘Johnny’ cakes and a bush tucker botanical talk for Year 9.
Many thanks goes to Kate Boyd, Matt Thistlethwaite, Carly Watson, Denise Willis & Ron Davison for their contribution to the week’s organisation.

LIHS entered a fantastic team into this year’s knock out competition including Damon Riggs, Keith Gatt, Brianna and Lakeesha Davis Lonsborough, Jerry Messiti, Coutney & Dustin Riggs, Jai Russell, Cody & Kadin Mongta. The team put on an amazing performance, winning all of their games, ending with the opportunity to play in the Grand Final. The two top teams were matched in style and talent with an end result of Dapto 3 - LIHS 2. Congratulations to all players for their exceptional conduct and talent displayed on the day.
