POSITIVE BEHAVIOR FOR LEARNING

PBL

Promoting Positive Behaviour for Learning.

As a PBL school LIHS rewards students who are respectful, responsible and safe in every setting.

For all parents, carers and students we would like to take this opportunity to remind you of our core values.

Our school values:

RESPECT ⎜RESPONSIBILITY ⎜SAFETY

HAVE A POSITIVE APPROACH

SPEAK IN A POSITIVE MANNER

HAVE A POSITIVE ATTITUDE

We show RESPECT by being tolerant and accepting of everyone, being polite and considerate of others, using appropriate language and wearing the school uniform.

We show RESPONSIBILITY by being at the right place, right time, staying on task in class and being prepared, following procedures and instructions including putting rubbish in the bin and caring for our surroundings.

We show SAFETY by following instructions, keeping our hands to our self and having a smoke free zone.

These values direct all we do at Lake Illawarra High School making our school a more productive and positive place.

DRESS FOR SUCCESS

Lake Illawarra High School is a proud uniform wearing school. This is in accordance with the Department of Education policy and the collaboration of the whole school community, that is, students, parents and families (represented by the P & C) and staff.

Wearing school uniform presents a positive public image to the community of our school. School uniform also fosters a safer school environment by enabling students to be easily identified. All students are expected to wear full school uniform every day. LIHS uniforms may be purchased at Lowes located within Shellharbour Square. Polo shirts and parkas are available from the school canteen between 8:00am - 1:30pm Monday - Friday during school terms. If you are having having difficulty purchasing uniform – we ask that you contact your child’s Year Advisor who will be able to organise appropriate support.

Weekly PBL Focus Values throughout Term 3 will continue to remain a high priority in all settings. Specific PBL lessons will also continue to occur so as to encourage active learning in classrooms around the school.

PBL Lessons

In Week 3, LIHS Whole School PBL lesson focused on linking the school value of responsibility with wearing the correct school uniform. The lesson centred on being responsible and highlighting the importance of wearing uniforms and what the correct uniform includes. Students were presented with an engaging lesson through directed discussions and a multi media presentation. This encouraged active learning in classrooms around the school.

Future specific PBL lessons will continue to occur so as to further create safe, effective teaching and learning environments.

Focus Value: RESPONSIBILITY

Focus of the Fortnight is:

Week 3/4: We show responsibility when we use phones appropriately.

Students will only use phones before school, recess and lunch times.

RESPONSIBLE USE OF MOBILE PHONES

The school recognises that mobile phones are an integral part of society and for many parents/guardians they serve as a tool to assist with organisation and safety of their child. As a result, Lake Illawarra High School has adopted a responsible use approach towards mobile phone use at school. This means that students are permitted to use their mobile phones for appropriate reasons before school, at breaks and after school. Students are not allowed to use mobile phones in class time unless specifically allowed by the teacher.
