Faith

Education in Faith

Welcome to Education in Faith 2020.  At St Anthony's, Education in Faith is underpinned by the Religious Dimensions of Catholic Education Melbourne and includes:

Prayer

Prayer is key to a living faith, nourishing the soul and orienting each person to God. The Catholic school makes time to pray daily, keeping the presence of God at the forefront of each school day and connecting it to the church community and the wider world. In our multi-faith and diverse cultural context the school community respectfully invites everyone to prayer, enabling deep encounters between the Catholic faith and contemporary life.  Drawing from rich prayer traditions, a variety of ways of praying are encouraged: individual and communal, vocal and silent, informal and liturgical. Prayer engenders a way of being in the world and a perspective on life that, at times, can be challenging and counter-cultural. Through prayer, the sacred is acknowledged, assented to and celebrated. It marks the times when we affirm the presence of God and the sacredness of everyday life. Our Catholic school community embraces a prayerful attitude that is open to a personal encounter with God through Christian Meditation and the nurturing of humility, reflection, and a rich inner life.

Christian Meditation

Christian Meditation is beneficial for all who participate in this method of meditating.  The students and staff at St. Anthony’s meditate every morning before school starts.  This program assists everyone to take the time to talk to God, pray to Jesus, be still and in the moment.

This opportunity is for the students to leave the woes of the morning and previous day behind and concentrate on the here and now.  It appears that everyone is much more calm and ready to face the busy day ahead, having been in touch with God while listening to meditation music. Therefore, it is imperative that students are at school by 8.40am to unpack their bag and get themselves ready for meditation at 8.50am and the school day ahead.  Having a few minutes to ourselves at the beginning of the day in the spirit of the Catholic faith is necessary for our health and well-being.  Parents and friends are welcome to join in Christian Meditation in your child's classroom.

Sacrament of First Reconciliation - Thursday 19th March, 2020

The Sacrament of First Reconciliation will be celebrated at St Anthony's Church on Thursday 19th March, 2020 at 7pm to 8pm.

The Sacrament of First Reconciliation is one of the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church and is offered to all our Year 3 students who have been baptised in the faith.  First Reconciliaton is when also known as First Confession or the Sacrament of Penance.  The students who will be receiving this sacrament known as candidates are given the opportunity to say sorry for their sins and reconcile with God, the family and the church community.  The Sacrament of First Reconciliation and continued reconciliation (confession) shows that:

  • It celebrates the endlessly forgiving mercy of God
  • It brings about the reconciliation with God which it signifies.
  • It celebrates the change of heart of all those who turn back to God
