Bush fire Fundraiser

Social Justice Action

Although there are many schools in both Victoria and NSW badly affected by the bush fires we have two of our St Anthony’s school staff members and their families who have a very close connection to the southern NSW area and in particular to St Mary’s Primary School Moruya which can be found on the south east coast of NSW, two hours north of Merimbula.

In the spirit of catholic social justice, and due to the many requests from families, we have decided to take action by assisting, to a small degree, St Mary’s Primary School Moruya with their recovery.

Red Cross and St Vincent’s De Paul have been instrumental in assisting many communities in rebuilding however with our personal relationship with St Mary’s we thought we would concentrate on this small community and their students.

We have started a dialogue with the school and the Principal, Noeleen O’Neill, was delighted to hear that we were reaching out.  Please find below a small paragraph from her letter for your information.

“Thank you for contacting us here at St Mary’s. As you know, our community has had a dreadful time with the bushfires this summer.

Today [3 February] is the first day back for the children because we were unable to open last week.

A number of our families have lost everything, houses, farms, etc. and many have had close calls. Our Staff are in a similar situation”.

Noeleen has asked for us to raise money to be put towards something special for the children.  Their students haven’t had an enjoyable Christmas break and our donation would go towards a child geared event.

We anticipate our fundraising will occur in the next month, so start saving your gold coins for our future fund-raisers.

Thank you for your continued support.
