MOIRA SHIRE YOUTH COUNCIL
Last week our Moira Shire Council Youth Council representatives attended the final meeting for the year which was a celebration of the years work and a farewell to the Year 10 students completing their second and final year.
In keeping with the theme throughout, the final celebration included a number of activities that pushed our representatives out of their comfort zone and created invaluable networking opportunities with other future leaders of our community.
All of the councilors from across the Shire's schools were split into three groups and rotated through the 3 stations which consisted of African Drumming with djembe drums facilitated by Emma and Brianna from In the Groove Drumming, martial arts instruction by Bernie from Oriental Martial Arts and a yoga session by Georgia Sprunt. All the students had a great time even if they were at times challenged by limited flexibility, timing or courage!
The mayor of Moira Shire was in attendance to address the group and present their certificates and Moira Shire Councilors Gary Cleveland and Marie Martin were also on hand to show their support for this valuable program. The Shire's facilitator of the Youth Council program, Justin Boschetti, congratulated the group on their efforts and ensured his own ongoing popularity by providing an enviable variety of pizza for lunch!
We look forward to recruiting 3 new Moira Shire Youth Councilors to participate in this great program in on behalf of Cobram AGS in 2020.
Going over and above: Ruby Cook
CAGS student Ruby Cook entered a competition to write a short story at the start of the year that she had found online herself, called Write4Fun.
Her story was short listed as a finalist and was chosen to be published in a book of short stories with the other finalists. This will be printed within the coming weeks.
Prior to the Easter holidays Ruby also went over and above for a fundraiser that she felt was a very worthy cause, that she'd seen on a TV program about Mercy Ships Australia. Ruby felt this was a great charity to help and put a plan together to raise money and set an amount of $500. Ruby and her family had a garage sale, and she made 100s of cupcakes and sold them at the garage sale and took orders from various workplaces. She did the whole lot herself and raised $1,228.60.
Ruby and her family are very proud of her achievements, as are we at CAGS. Ruby is a quiet person, but to watch her explaining to people what Mercy Ships Australia is all about was amazing and going over and above to help others in this way, all off her own accord is very impressive.
Keep up the great Ruby, you are a wonderful role model for our school community!
School Production Success:
The X FACTORY
Well done to all involved in this year's school production.
Mrs Chmiel and her crew have done an outstanding job putting on their four performances across the two nights! A true credit to you all for your hard work, commitment and dedication whilst still being able to juggle school routines, studies and everything in between - a terrific achievement!
A special big thank you to all the parents and families who supported this project, allowing for extra running around, allowing for hours of rehearsals, helping with lines and all that goes along with having a true "performing artist" in the house ...
You have set the bar high again for next year!
CAGS Playgroup Fun
CAGS Playgroup continues to grow. Together with our highly experienced Early Childhood Educator Leica McLeod and CAGS Playgroup facilitator Mrs Jemma Kennedy, we have seen over 40 families come along to our Tuesday sessions since the middle of last term.
It has been wonderful to see lots of play mixed with sensory and cognitive learning. Story time that includes singing, dancing and telling of stories. Not to mention a fabulous social time for all the mums and carers.
Reminder: next Tuesday is Melbourne Cup Day and our school is closed for the day. See you all on Tuesday 12th November for more fun.
Everyone is welcome!!

Sink or Swim: Prep - Y6
Life Saving Victoria visited CAGS recently and presented the ‘sink and swim’ program to the Prep to Year 6 students.
The students learnt about water safety from Jenny, who is an experienced lifesaver. This interactive program empowers students to keep themselves and others safe in all caustic environments (beaches, rivers, lakes, dams, and pools), through engaging practical activities.
The students learnt the following water safety messages :
✅ Be aware and be prepared
✅ Always read the safety signs
✅ Always swim between the flags
✅ Never swim alone
✅Check it’s OK to swim - learn the conditions look before you leap
✅Wear a life jacket
Grandparents Day 2019
How lucky are we at our school to have so many amazing Grandparents who came along to our special event this morning.
The junior & middle school was buzzing with classroom activities, story time, our art display in the PAC, morning tea and a performance from the Year 1/2s to finish of the formalities for our special guests.
Well done to all involved. Especially the masses who help set up and organise the event. And of course, a warm thank you to all of our wonderful Grandparents, Parents and special people in our students lives to make the effort to be involved, it was a terrific day!!!

The Dungala Kaiela Writing Awards
WELL DONE to Kadeyn Duggan, Lyra Robbins, Harlin Robbins, Jett Robbins, River Loizou and Mrs Post who entered the Writing Awards which have been judged and the awards ceremony is next Friday at Rumbalara
Jett Robbins, Harlin Robbins, River Loizou and Mrs Post have been shortlisted for an award.
For Kadeyn and Lyra, there were approximately 50 entries in their age group so it was a hard category for the judges to pick winners.
Libby Woodhouse and Sharon Charles (competition co-ordinators) had the following to say:
"We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Cobram Anglican Grammar School for their support of these awards and encouraging young writers to enter the competition."
With best wishes,
Libby Woodhouse

CAREERS News: Morrisby Profiling
Our year 9 group have just completed the Morrisby Profiling and are participating in career meetings with our career coordinator, Mrs Maggie Booth at school to unpack the portal findings.
The Morrisby program offers a report covering the students aptitude strengths in vocabulary, numeracy, abstract, spatial and mechanical reasoning. The information is then complimented by the students interests, personality, learning style and work style. The Morrisby report is just the start as the students are introduced to the interactive portal that they can use to explore school subjects, post school education options and research career pathways.
This portal gives the student an interactive planner they can use moving forward through the senior school. This is an exciting program that our CAGS students will use as a resource going forward. If you have any questions about the program do not hesitate to contact Maggie Booth.
