RESPECT, RESPONSIBILTY AND SAFETY

Dear Parents and Friends of St Agatha's Primary School,

Palm Sunday Reflection by Dianne Bergant
As we prepare to enter the sacred time of Holy Week, we look again at the significance of Christ in our lives. Though he was really in the form of God, Jesus came in the form of a slave. We have a saviour who was crushed for our iniquities, nailed to a cross as a convicted felon, and there endured the sense of abandonment. We have a saviour who was finally lifted up and exalted precisely because he emptied himself of his divine privileges. Unlike conquerors who triumph by putting down their opponents, Jesus was raised up because he himself was first willing to be put down. We have a saviour who first offered himself for us and then continues to offer himself to us as an example to follow. As he was willing to empty himself for our sake, so we must to be willing to empty ourselves for the sake of others.
The best way to enter Holy Week with Jesus is in the company of those with whom he has identified himself: the poor and the broken; the humiliated and the marginalised; those who suffer the abuse of others; those who never use rank to force their will. If we are to be saved, we must go where salvation takes place: in our streets and in our homes where violence rages; in the dark corners of life where despair holds sway; wherever the innocent are abused or the needy are neglected; wherever there is misunderstanding or fear or jealousy. We must go wherever Christ empties himself for our sake.

We are fast approaching the end of Term One! Next week we have many events planned as part of Lent and to complete the term. Parents are most welcome to attend.

  • Tuesday 4th April 11:30am -Palm Sunday (hosted by Foundation) and The Washing of the Feet/Holy Thursday Prayer Time  in the school hall (hosted by Year 4)
  • Tuesday 4th April 2:30pm - End of Term Whole School Assembly in the school hall and Easter Raffle Draw
  • Thursday 6th April 2:30pm -Stations of the Cross (hosted by Year 5) in the school hall

Parents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the Child Safe Code of Conduct and Child Safety and Wellbeing Policy when visiting the school for events such as these.

Congratulations to all the students who made the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time. It is a brave thing to be able to admit a mistake and own it. At School, we work with our students to understand how to forgive one another and to accept our own faults and learn from them. Thank you to Mr Butler, the teachers, and parents for working with

the Parish to prepare the students making their First Reconciliation. Father Joseph is grateful for the commitment of parents in assisting in the preparation by attending Mass each weekend as well as the Parent/Child workshops.

Earlier this week, one of our school captains Hamish, wrote me a letter outlining concerns relating to a new drink on the market called PRIME. It is a well written and informative letter that goes into detail regarding sugar content and why this particular drink should be banned. Did you know that Prime contains more caffeine than a can of Monster Energy? Health experts recommend that this drink not be given to children.

At St Agatha's, we ask that students bring water bottles to school only.

The letter is attached. I encourage all parents to read Hamish's letter.

A reminder that Thursday 6th April is the last day of Term One. School resumes for students on Thursday April 27.
