Year 1 News

From Karen, Year 1 teacher

Anzac Day

We have been learning about ANZAC Day, including its history and symbols. As a class, we made poppies, and wrote information reports about ANZAC Day. We had a whole school ANZAC assembly on Wednesday afternoon as well, and spent 1-minute in silence to commemorate those who have fought for the country.

Reading

We are revising and continuing to familiarise ourselves with common digraphs, such as “ch”, “sh” and “ck”. The students were engaging in a range of activities, such as word find, word hunt in story books, and brainstorming all the words they know that includes one of the common digraphs.

Maths

We will be looking at money, specifically identifying features of the Australian coins and recognising their value. The students will be engaging in a range of activities, such as drawing coins, using Australian coins to make pictures, and playing Celebrity Heads Up with coins.
