Message from Principal Sarah

From Sarah Nightingale, Principal

Welcome back to Term 2! We hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday.

Although last week was a short week, it proved to be a very busy week as we settled back into school. We anticipate the remainder of this nine week term will be action packed as our Prep to Year 2 students prepare to transition to our new Molesworth Street campus.

Goodbye ‘Errol Street News’…Hello ‘NMPS News’

With the opening of our new campus this term, we felt it was timely to rename our fortnightly newsletter to ‘NMPS News’.

Those of you that read the newsletter regularly would have noticed this year we are including Year Level Updates every fortnight so families can see what is happening in our classrooms. We encourage families to read the newsletter together to discuss what your child is learning and celebrate the wonderful things happening in and out of classrooms at NMPS.

Learning Overviews

You can also find out about what your child is learning this term through our Learning Overviews on our website. See here for Year 5 Learning Overview for Term 2.

Teachers are currently in the process of updating the termly overviews on our website. Please take a moment over the next couple of weeks to view some of the upcoming learning opportunities and events for each year's level and specialist subjects.

Molesworth Street Campus Transition Update

As you know, we started our Term 2 all together at Errol Street Campus. The first and second week has seen our staff put their finishing touches across the new spaces as we

edge closer to our P-2 students moving in date! The school has been working closely with the VSBA during this time to ensure the new campus is ready and raring to go in preparation for our junior learners and I look forward to seeing them make their own mark on the new build.

For the rest of this week, we’ll continue to support our staff transition and prep the spaces as much as possible. Next week we’re going to continue the slow roll out of planned transition activities. We will stagger visits for each year level across the first half of the week before we gather as a full cohort later in the week. Full operation as the new junior P-2 campus will begin from Monday 15 May. Our start and finish times for each campus are below.

Errol Street Campus

School starts at 8:45am (gates open at 8:30am)

School finishes at 3:15pm (gates close at 3:30pm)

Molesworth Street Campus

School starts at 9am (gates open at 8:45am)

School finishes at 3:30pm (gates close at 3:45pm)

The VSBA also continues to work closely with local council to finalise a parking/drop-off and pick-up site map for our Molesworth Street Campus. We hope to share this with you in the coming days.

Campus Official Opening

As previously mentioned, I’m excited to share with you the news of our official Molesworth Street Campus opening celebrations planned for Thursday 25 May. We want to invite parents, carers, families, the new Molesworth Street Kindergarten community and of course all our dedicated staff to celebrate this milestone with our students. We’re currently looking at a midday start, but more details will be available in our next school newsletter.

Anzac Day

Brigadier Bob Slater,
Brigadier Bob Slater,

To commemorate the National Day of Remembrance we held a whole school assembly conducted by our student leaders on Wednesday 26th April. We would like to thank our guest speaker, Brigadier Bob Slater, for his memorable speech drawing on his experience and also highlighting some of North Melbourne Primary School’s history during the assembly. See our Year 6 News page for more details about the assembly.

State Swimming Event

Congratulations to our Year 6 Boys Relay Team – Finn, Lachlan, Max and Michael - who represented North Melbourne Primary School at the State Swimming Event on Friday last week. The boys swam exceptionally well and came fifth in their race. This is a huge achievement and we are very proud of the team.
