Year 10 Report

SENIOR PATHWAY INFORMATION

On Wednesday 24th of May, the Year 10 team in conjunction with the Senior team and Careers department, held a Pathway Information Night. The attendance was outstanding and we were thrilled to have the opportunity to share the valuable insights with the year 10 students and parents.

The attached video captures the key points that were covered during the presentation, ensuring that you have access to all the necessary details at your convenience:

It is important to note that decisions regarding your Pathway and Subject Selection take place early in term 3. We are here to support you throughout this process, so please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any further questions.

WORK EXPERIENCE

The Year 10 cohort are heading out on work experience on the 19th of June to the 23rd of June. We are thrilled with the effort that some of the students went to to make the most of this opportunity.

Some of the workplaces/areas that the students will be attending include Marine Biology Institute, Architecture, Melbourne Magistrate Court, Audio Technician, “Planet Shaker” Australian Ballet, LaTrobe University, and Wildlife. We are excited to hear back from the Year 10’s about their experiences.

SENIOR SCHOOL FOOTBALL

We won three games and lost 1. It was very cold and wet. The ground was wet and muddy. Everyone played really well but we were just off making the next round.

Zane, Intermediate Boys Footy team

Although we lost all our games all of the girls had such a fun time. It was super muddy and we all arrived back at school covered in mud.

Nikita, Intermediate Girls Footy team

SENIOR SCHOOL SOCCER

Our soccer boys won 3 out of the 4 of our games. It was super fun as the rain was pouring down. Everyone had to use teamwork to work together and this lead us to going to the next round (State).

Dylan, Intermediate Boys Soccer team

The girls soccer team played absolutely amazing with great team work and communication. Even though it was cold and raining we persevered through this challenge winning almost all of our games, overall finishing second. To top off the fun day Miss Charalambous and Miss Lattanzio bought us all hot chips!

GOOD LUCK, LEVY!

We are proud to announce an exciting opportunity for Year 10 student, Levy. In September Levy will be fortunate enough to trial for his home country, Albania. He is excited to trial for the Albanian National Soccer Team. We all wish you the best of luck Levy!

Lights, CAT, Action!

The Year 11 Drama students performed their ensemble CAT on Thursday 18th May to friends and family in the DSC Performance Centre. They created a performance based on the stimulus ‘Do we dictate to the media or does the media dictate to us.’

Students researched, scripted, blocked, and directed this performance almost entirely on their own. They had to incorporate the theatre styles of Epic and Poor theatre in their performance and had to include transformation of time, place and set, as well as symbolism.

The students worked tirelessly on this for the last few months and successfully pulled off an engaging and thought-provoking performance!

Learning beyond the textbook

On Monday 1st May, both Year 12 Business Management classes were lucky enough to attend the Yakult Factory in Dandenong to learn more about Operations Management, along with Mrs Sarah Le Page, Mr Nalisha Kumarasinghe and Ms Hayley Smith from Wellbeing.

This is the first time Business Management students have been on an excursion since COVID, and it was great to actually see some of the processes they have been learning about from their textbook, including an assembly line, robotics, and just-in-time production of Yakult bottles right before they were needed for filling.

In an evaluation survey, 90% of the students in attendance agreed that the excursion helped them to better understand the information they were learning, and the most valuable part was seeing an actual factory in the process of production.

“It was cool getting to see how the bottles were made and the machines used. Also cool to see that they have numbers on the machines that correlate to the process of production” said Tate N.

It was particularly interesting “seeing people actually working,” said Riya N.

Lachlan G. enjoyed trying the product, which many students had not yet sampled before this excursion.

Marc D. and Zachary V. both agreed that it would be even better with more free samples.

Jemma K. said that having a “longer tour in more depth and detail to give us time to fully understand the process” would be wonderful.

It was a quick overview of the factory and there was so much more we would have loved to have seen. Thank you to Yakult for providing this opportunity for our students.

A Burger with a Message

Our Year 10 Ceramics students have just completed a very interesting assignment! Their mission: sculpt a burger but replace its standard ingredients with ingredients that convey a particular message or social issue that they are passionate about. This could include political or environmental issues, religion, greed, animal rights, etc.

Here are a few of the imaginative sculptures that have been submitted.

In case you missed it on Facebook...

Our VCE-VM students have been busy in the kitchen making meals for those in need. Working with community partners, David Rosenwax of local food supplies ACE Filters and Carenet Templestowe, our students gained valuable work skills in a commercial kitchen and the satisfaction of helping our local community. Looks delicious, students!
