Athletics Day 2023

Out and About with MyPhoto

Our Year 9 MyPhoto students have been practicing their technical skills and observing works through excursions to the Royal Botanical Gardens and the Manningham Art Gallery.

At the Botanical Gardens, students applied technical skills and their imagination by completing a 20-photo challenge. The following photos are samples of the work produced by our MyPhoto students.

At the Manningham Art Gallery, students experienced the Unfinished Business exhibition which revealed stories of 30 First Nations people with disability. Their deeply personal stories are complex and intertwined with Australia’s political and social history, which has resulted in today’s unacceptably high rates of disability in Australia’s First Nations communities. Students were reading their stories and had to analyse two artworks of their choice.

What do a teacher and a firefighter have in common?

Yesterday we welcomed ex-DSC teacher, Mr. Trewella, back onsite to deliver a highly interactive presentation to our Year 9 MyFuture students. Mr. T enjoyed a successful career as a Health & PE teacher however last year he took a courageous leap and shifted his career from teaching to fire-fighting. Students were given tips on how to discover their values and preferences through experiential learning - all while trying to get dressed for firefighting in under 90 seconds!

Through casual jobs as a teenager and volunteering work as a young adult, Mr. T discovered that he values teamwork, health & fitness, and community & service - both attributes fitting for a career in teaching and the fire service.

Thank you Mr. Trewella for an insightful presentation, especially as it was on your day off from the fire service.
