The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation and Coles.

The SAKG foundation and Coles partnered together in 2020 and are working together to make the Kitchen/Garden program accessible to more schools and services around the country.

Working together means we can extend our fresh food philosophy beyond the school gate engaging families and whole communities. This means that we can actively influence and support more children and young people to form positive food habits for life!

Magnificent mushrooms for the month of May.

Have you seen the May edition of the Coles Magazine which features 4 lucky Kingswood students inside? For the month of May, Coles will donate 20 cents from every 500g punnet of Coles mushrooms back to the foundation, up to the value of $100,000! Packed full of B vitamins and antioxidants for immune health, mushrooms make a great addition to any hearty dish, all while supporting the Kitchen/Garden foundation.

Week 2 in the Kitchen

Last week we welcomed the students back into the kitchen for term 2. Students in Year 5 and 6 celebrated our beautiful school grown pak choy by making:

  • Spring rolls
  • Asian salad with roasted rice
  • Easy apple sheet cake

No deep frying required here! For this healthier option, the students sliced, sauteed, rolled and baked these little bundles of deliciousness for a very tasty main dish.

This was teamed beautifully with the salad using leaves harvested from the garden and a lovely simple sweet cake to finish off.

These are all very easy to prepare and with many students asking for the recipes, I have added them to this newsletter for convenience. For a little mushroom inspiration, I have also shared a great recipe for silverbeet, mushroom and feta pizza. Enjoy!
