MIDDLE SCHOOL
Dear Middle School Parents/Carers and Students
I hope everyone had an enjoyable Term 1 break over the holidays. A lot happened in Term 1 and I thank everyone for their dedication and commitment.
Term 2 is off to a great start! We have a lot of things planned throughout this short term, some of which include, Year 9 Morrisby Career Profiling Tests, Year 10 Study Skills Sessions, Semester 1 Exams, Year 9 Discovery Week and Year 10 Work Experience.
Students have been invited to participate in the Department of Education confidential online Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS) to be conducted during school time commencing Monday 15 May. The survey will take around 15 - 20 minutes to complete. These surveys really do play an important role in providing feedback which helps inform our next areas of focus.

Year 9 Morrisby Program and Year 10 Challenge Accepted Program
On Tuesday May 23 during Periods 3 and 4, Middle Sschool students will be participating in the following:
Year 9: Morrisby Program
Year 10: Challenge Accepted – ‘Exam Ready’ study skills session
Please note, Year 10 students doing Year 11 subjects at this time will still be required to attend the Challenge Accepted program.
Morrisby Profile for Year 9 Students
All Year 9 students are to complete the Morrisby Profile Online Assessment
All Year 9 Students will be doing the Morrisby Profile at school on Tuesday 25 May 2023 during Periods 3 and 4 in the Senior Presentation Space and Study Space. Students will need to ensure their laptops are fully charged.
What is the Morrisby Profile? The Morrisby Profile is here to help your child find their true career direction using scientific profiling of abilities, personality, interests and motivation to help them discover their own unique characteristics. With this awareness, they can ensure they are able to make the right choices when it comes to options at ages 16 and 18, higher education courses and apprenticeships, plus lots of information on the careers the Morrisby Profile feel they would be best suited to. The Department of Education and Training (DET) requires all Year 9 students to complete this profile.
A follow-up individual interview will be held in the first few weeks of Term 3 with a qualified Morrisby Counsellor, that will help each student reflect on the results of the profile, also enabling student to use this information to support their Senior School course selections.
Middle School Exams Schedule
More details to come
All Middle School students are required to sit Semester 1 Exams for English, Maths and Science. If a student is absent on the day of the exam a medical certificate needs to be provided to explain the absence. Any students who miss an exam day will be allocated to catch-up day exams on Thursday 15 June, Friday 16 June or in Term 3.
Please find below the Middle School Exam Schedule. More details to come.
The Middle School exams lays a strong foundation for success in Year 12. Students should set high expectations for their own achievement and seek advice and support from their teachers. We wish all students the best of luck in their exams.
At home, students can be supported by implementing the following recommendations:
- Providing a quiet study space at home free from distractions
- Encouraging your child to eat well and get plenty of sleep
- Encouraging students to limit social engagements around exam time, including their use of social media. Students should focus solely on their studies, without distraction from Instagram, sending SMS to friends, etc, then do so when having a break in their study.
Year 10 Work Experience
The Year 10 Work Experience Program is a mandatory one week placement, which Year 10 students are required to undertake with an employer. The Work Experience Program for 2023 will be conducted during the last week of Term 2, Monday 19 to Friday 23 June 2023.
Work Experience Arrangement Forms are now overdueWork experiences arrangements in Victoria and reciprocating state must be made using the Work Experience Arrangement Form. All sections of this form must be completed, signed and dated by the Employer, Parent/Carer, Student and Principal before the work experience can commence. Return to the General Office or email workexperience@fhs.vic.edu.au Please Note: Once this form has been signed by the Principal, this document will provide your student with Work Cover and Public Liability Insurance.
Students are expected to make their own arrangements with employers. We do not encourage parents/carers to undertake this task on behalf of their child. We strongly advise our students to plan ahead and make enquires with prospective employers well in advance. We encourage students to think about their recent subject selections, career action plan and use their Morrisby reports for ideas on possible placements that they would like to explore. Students can also use the Career Targets tool for inspiration. This is located on Frankston High School Careers website. https://www.fhscareers.com/for‐students/career‐targets
We appreciate students may already have part-time jobs and are developing their work related skills. However, we believe students need to explore beyond these realms and into future possibilities. For this reason, students are not permitted to undertake the mandatory Work Experience Program placement with their current employers, as this contradicts the aims of the program.
Our Work Experience Coordinator is Ms Debbie James and is available to answer any questions and can be contacted via email djames@fhs.vic.edu.au

Year 9 Discovery Week
In the last week of Term 2, all Year 9 students will participate in Discovery Week. It is compulsory for all students to attend this program each day. Students with 100% attendance during discovery week will go in the draw to win a Giant bike!
The Year 9 Discovery Week is an exciting and comprehensive educational initiative designed to empower students with essential life skills, career exploration, and knowledge related to various important wellbeing and personal development themes.
Students will have the opportunity to explore different career pathways, hear from Monash University, and develop an understanding of the skills and qualifications required for different professions.
Throughout the program, students will have the privilege of interacting with guest speakers and organizations such as Speak Share, Toolbox Education, Pat Cronin Foundation, Empowered Together, and the Frankston Youth Bus. These speakers and organizations specialize in areas such as mental health and wellbeing. Their expertise and personal experiences will provide students with valuable insights, strategies, and resources to navigate these important topics.
In addition to career education and guest speakers, the Year 9 Discovery Week Program includes a variety of hands-on activities. Students will have the opportunity to develop practical skills, such as cooking and sports, fostering teamwork, creativity, and personal growth.
Other topics which will be covered during the week include safe partying, respectful relationships and team-building activities.
On the last day of term, we have a special last day of celebrations planned to include house competitions, lunch and a magician performance!
