Principal's Report

Dear Collingwood College,

As always, I am delighted to provide you with some important updates and exciting developments that are currently happening at Collingwood College.

International Engagement: Vietnam Trip

In early May, I had the privilege of joining representatives from the Department of Education and six other principals on a visit to Vietnam. The purpose of our visit was to explore Vietnam as a potential market for international students and establish valuable connections within the education sector.

We were impressed by Vietnam's educational landscape and the remarkable potential it holds. As a result, we are eager to tap into this emerging market and offer a world-class education to Vietnamese students. The trip allowed us to engage with key stakeholders, discuss the exceptional qualities of Collingwood College, and showcase why our school is an excellent choice for international students.  I also had the privilege of meeting the parents of some of our Vietnamese parents while away.

Staffing Updates

As we navigate Australian-wide staffing challenges in the educational sector, we have experienced some changes within our staff at Collingwood College. We have had several staff on long-term leave.  They include Campbell Gome (Secondary Steiner), John Gioskis (Senior Mathematics) and Travis Marke (Senior Music/Yr 11 Leader).

Some staff we bid farewell to, and they include Tegan McCarthy (EAL/Senior English), Kate McCarthy (Senior Health/Outdoor ed/Secondary), and Mark Campbell (Secondary Mathematics). We extend our heartfelt appreciation for their contributions to our school community and wish them all the best in their future endeavours.

On a positive note, we warmly welcome several talented individuals to our staff. Krish Soorkia (Careers/Humanities), Kane Barwick (EAL/English), Chris Millard (Yr 12 Health - Temporary), Glenda Theys (Senior Maths - Temporary), Annie-Rose Maloney (Steiner/Science), and Kevin Murphy (Senior Mathematics) who bring with them a wealth of expertise and qualifications. We are confident that their passion for education will enrich the Collingwood College community and help us overcome any challenges we face.

Improvements and Upgrades

We continue to demonstrate our commitment to enhancing the learning environment and community experience at Collingwood College. We have been working diligently to improve our facilities and create a space where students can thrive and succeed.

I am thrilled to announce the completion of the renovated canteen area, providing our students with a modern and inviting space to enjoy their food and socialise in a warm environment. Furthermore, we have improved signage and way-finding throughout the campus, making navigation more accessible and ensuring a seamless experience for visitors.

Digital signage has been strategically placed across the premises. This dynamic form of communication enables us to share important announcements, celebrate birthdays, and keep everyone informed about upcoming events and activities.

Additionally, we have upgraded various classrooms with new furniture and desks, creating comfortable and functional spaces that support our students' educational journeys. We have also installed additional air conditioning units to create an optimal learning environment for both students and teachers.

Looking ahead, we are eagerly anticipating the renovation of the Junior Play Area and the development of the Collingwood College Early Childhood Centre. These projects hold tremendous potential to further enrich our campus and provide enhanced learning experiences for our students.
