Kings Park Campus Principal Message
April 2023,
As we approach the end of Term 1 we would like to thank all members of staff for their endless support of our students at KP. We have received much feedback from students and families in relation to the calm and focussed year we have had to date. This would not be possible, of course, without the willingness and preparedness of students to engage in their learning and that of their peers. We very much look forward to Term 2 with excitement and enthusiasm, and the opportunities it will bring.
Discovery Evening: A huge thank you to Tara Causer (Campus Transition Leader) for all of her work in organising and promoting the Discovery Evening. This event is a great chance for prospective students and their families to see the campus and hear about the wonderful opportunities that enrolling at Copperfield College- Kings Park Campus offers. The evening’s tag line “there’s more to Copperfield than you know” did not disappoint.
Student Landscape Garden Projects: We have been successful (thanks to Pam Grech, our School Nurse) with a number of grants to assist in the beatification of campus grounds, and importantly, to include students in the design and practical completion of the ‘landscape gardening projects’. This includes the ‘Climate Oasis in Schools Project’ (Brimbank City Council). This Project will involve working with Council to support and facilitate a collaborative Landscape Masterplan design process involving students, teachers, Council, and partner specialists (appointed by Council). The second grant is from the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation. The aim of the Kickstart grant is to help schools deliver a whole-school approach to health and wellbeing. It will enable us to purchase necessary garden and/or kitchen materials, such as garden beds, garden tools, cupboards, benches, pots and pans
We are also working with a group of VCE VM students around designing and constructing an indigenous garden space as part of their ‘community project’.
Resilient Youth Survey: Last week, all students completed the Resilient Youth Survey provided by the City of Brimbank. Student voice is an important priority at our College, and survey responses feed into our daily work. Responses will also be used in inform our planning for the Social and Emotional Wellbeing Program to be rolled-out in full from 2024.
NAPLAN: Last week all Year 7 and 9 students completed NAPLAN. The behaviour of students was exemplary and we were so pleased with our smoothly the timetable operated. NAPLAN assesses five learning; reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy. Well done to Bobby and Health, our Campus Leaders, for their work behind the scenes to ensure it was successful.
We continue to work towards achieving our 2023 Campus goals;
Attendance and Belonging: Students at school, in class on time, and remaining in class (AIP) (Attendance 78% / 10 days per term absent (1 day each week); Late (Unapp.) 12,019 Periods /Ave.18)
Use of Routines: Use of fluid seating arrangements based on student data and need (AIP; Aspirational Learning Environment)
Pride in the Environment: Respect for the environment students learn, play and socialise in, and in which we work (e.g. classrooms, corridors, toilets and the yard) (Physical Environment as a stressor 12%; State 5%)
Student Acknowledgement: Notice when students do the ‘right thing’ or strive for their personal best, and let them know (KP: Positives, 2980; Needs Improvement; 2570). (AIP; ALE)
It is pleasing to see the high number of genuine positive Compass posts, recognition of the many good things our students do. We thank teachers for taking the time to let students know that you notice them when they demonstrate the best versions of themselves.
