From the

Leadership Team

Here we are at the end of a ten-week first Term, one that has been jam-packed with fabulous learning opportunities and extra-curricular activities.

In this edition of the Newsletter I’d like to focus on the importance of communication

At Greater Shepparton Secondary College one of our goals is to increase the connectedness of students, parents and community. To meet this goal for our students, we continue to build upon the Neighbourhood structure and the team-around-the learner approach.

This allows us to have greater knowledge of your child as a person along with greater understanding of their learning needs and career aspirations.

We also use the Home Group sessions and daily Student Bulletin along with TEAMS to communicate with our students.

To connect with families, GSSC uses COMPASS as our learner management system.

We are pleased to see many families using the features of this communication tool to track attendance, read about up-coming events, approve excursions and send messages to staff and leadership.

The recent on-line Parent-teacher-student interviews are also a way in which parents, guardians and teachers communicate.

To connect to the wider community we have over 3.5K followers on our facebook page - check out the latest posts showcasing individual student achievements such as Ellie’s Murray Bushranger debut, meet the Ngarri Ngarri team members and peruse stunning shots of our first 2023 Presentation Ball participants.

This fortnightly Newsletter is also a great source of communication.

Effective communication is the process of exchanging ideas, thoughts, opinions, knowledge, and data so that the message is received and understood with clarity and purpose.

When we communicate effectively, both the sender and receiver feel satisfied. We encourage you to use all of the many platforms available, as your feedback is important to us and drives the changes that we make.

Our catch-cry is “we are greater together”, so please help us walk this talk.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish Ian Goldrick all the very best in his retirement and thank him for his unwavering belief in improving public education for the youth of Greater Shepparton.

Ian (Goldy) has been pivotal in establishing polices, processes and programs for students of GSSC, improving pathways and outcomes. His leadership has been greatly appreciated.

Please enjoy this Newsletter and have a safe and happy holiday break. We look forward to seeing all our students return on Wednesday 26 April.
