Great Victorian Bike Ride 2018

Over the past couple of months, you may have spotted groups of Frankston High School students riding on Wednesday nights around Frankston South and Mt Eliza and on Sunday mornings.  The group of 30 students, eight parents and staff have been in training for the 2018 Great Victorian Bike Ride in all sorts of weather conditions, as they prepare for their 500+ kilometre challenge.  This year’s event begins in Bright then works its way up to Yarrawonga then back to Benella for the finish.

Two weeks ago, the group enjoyed perfect riding conditions as they completed a 75km ride up to the top of Arthurs Seat and back. The development of the students has been extremely impressive in terms of fitness, riding skills and road awareness.  For some, the early training sessions up Overport Road and Humphries Road were overwhelming, yet now they are conquering the tallest point on the Mornington Peninsula.

Over the next two weeks they will ride over 200km, with rides to Black Rock and Sorrento.  We really appreciate the friendly waves and patience of most drivers that we have encountered during the training sessions.

With two weeks until the beginning of the Great Victorian Bike Ride, students, staff and participating parents are finalising their preparation.  The success of our group is largely due to the support from our sponsors, who have generously contributed to our challenge.  We encourage you to contact our sponsors if you are in a position where you can utilise their services.
