Exams, careers and subject selections on calendar

Welcome back to another exciting school term! This term is very busy in the School of Possibilities. Students in Year 10 and those enrolled in Unit 1 VCE studies will complete semester exams. These exams are scheduled for Tuesday, June 13 to Monday, June 19. During this time, Year 10 and Unit 1 classes will not take place. More information will be released soon about arrangements for student supervision and attendance requirements during the exam period. Note that Unit 3 classes continue during this time. However, students studying a Unit 3&4 sequence and students fast-tracking certain VET courses will need to sit the GAT on Wednesday, June 15. Please note these important dates in your planners.

Year 10 careers counselling appointments

All Year 10 students are required to attend a careers counselling appointment with Careers Practitioner Belinda Gleeson during Weeks 4 and 5 (May 15 - 26). It is highly encouraged that a parent or caregiver attends these meetings. You will receive further information and the link to book these appointments via email. The aim of these meetings is to discuss each student’s career aspirations and align their program of learning in Year 11 and 12 to this pathway. Students will be asked to attend these sessions with a draft subject selection form and a good understanding of their options at St Anne’s College. Students are currently preparing for these appointments during their Careers lessons.

2024 subject selections and information nights

During this term, students begin to prepare for the 2024 school year with the selection of elective subjects. Students in Year 10 will also make important decisions about their future pathway, by electing to engage in VCE or VCE-Vocational Major (VCE-VM) in Years 11 and 12. Please mark the following dates in your diaries:

May 17: Year 11 in 2024 information night, 7:00pm

May 24: Year 12 in 2024 Information Night, 7:00pm

June 7: Year 10 in 2024 information night, 7:00pm

On these information nights, staff deliver important information about the learning programs on offer and the expectations and requirements associated with the VCE and VCE-VM. Staff will be available to answer questions that students and families may have about the different elective subjects and the subject selection process will be explained. We look forward to welcoming our families on these nights and supporting the students to develop their programs of learning for 2024!

Students focus on brain power in Psychology

Students in Unit 1 Psychology have been learning about the structures and functions of the human brain and the adaptations this amazing organ can make following injury. Learning Mentor Adam Zito kindly offered his head for the cause - allowing students to create a diagram of a brain: life size. Thanks Adam! Most students, however, opted to create a brain cap! Although much smaller in size, students dissected a lamb's brain, comparing similarities and differences to the human brain.

Life as a nursing student experienced on excursion

School of Possibilities students interested in medical careers visited La Trobe University, Shepparton campus recently, where La Trobe students Rikke, Jodi and Brody spent the morning explaining to the St Anne's students what university life is like, their experiences as nursing students and different pathways to get into university courses. One of the highlights was spending some time in the simulation hospital where School of Possibilities students performed tasks that nurses would train in in this room. Students took patient observations (blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen saturation), applied slings to broken arms and participated in CPR races during this session. Feedback from students was that the day was educational and provided a lot of information that they were looking for about the courses available.
