Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to Term 2. This Term has already been busy for all our students; Last Wednesday we had our ANZAC Day Service. Well done to all our leaders for their sincere presentation and conducting the Service. Somerville PS have a very proud history acknowledging and remembering such an important event in our history. Thursday saw a rather wet start to Cross Country, however we finished off the day with sunshine. It was outstanding to see so many of our students running and supporting each other. On Friday our Year 5-6 Students were at Lightning Prem, all students represented our school extremely well and displayed outstanding sportsmanship. Our Grade 4 students ran Assembly, spoke well, and presented ANZAC Awards; they demonstrated how capable our students are.

Mother’s Day

Next Friday there will be no assembly, rather we have our Mother’s Day/Special Person Open Afternoon. The classrooms are open from 2:30 and we look forward to seeing as many Mums and Special People as possible.

Prep 2024 Information Evening

On Wednesday next week we have our 2024 Prep Information Evening, this starts at 7pm in the hall/gym. If you have children who you are intending on sending in 2024 to Somerville PS, please contact the office for an information pack.

Uniform

As we move into winter, we will be conducting a Uniform check on Monday. Our uniform is outstanding, it looks great and provides our students with a sense of connection to their peers as well as keeping them warm. PSW is the only licenced stockist for our uniform, they are based in Mornington. Following student feedback, we have included a Somerville PS Beanie, Soft Shell Jacket, and new sports top. I have attached a copy of the expected uniform for our students, if you have any questions about the uniform requirements, please contact Shane Gagiero.

Students’ hair needs to be natural in colour, if it touches their shoulders, it must be tied back. This is for students’ safety and also to prevent headlice. Students need to come to school, with their hair tied back.

Reading Nights

Both Shane and I are impressed with how many students have reached the 100-night mark for Reading Nights. We have just over 200 nights left before the end of school in 2023. So, students who may not have started, can start now and still reach the 200-night goal.

Dental Van

Don’t forget Smile Squad will be here later this Term, please click here for more information.

With Mother’s Day next Sunday the 14th May, we wish all Mothers and Special People a Happy day and hope they all get spoilt!

Have a great weekend,

David and Shane
