"Self Esteem in Kids

I sometimes read article from Empowering Parents.com.

One article by James Lehman had a slightly different take on how to help build childrens self esteem which I found useful. Heres a summary:

He  highlighted

  1. Problem Solving and
  2. Learning to be independent as 2 keys to improve a childs self esteem.

He identified 3 critical roles for parents

  • Teaching - teach your child to problem solve
  • Coach-help them use the skills they already have
  • Limit Set- Limits for children need to be clear with appropriate consequences.

We all need a way to manage and solve problems as they are part of life. If we can teach a child to manage problems and be independent they will have a lot more peace and self esteem."
