Year 2 Update

During the next fortnight, students will be undertaking learning in the following areas:

Subject	Learning Focus
English/Reading	Week 3&4: We will continue to explore a range of texts that include sounds and heart words as part of our Little Learners Love Literacy program. This week students will be learning to use the diagraph /ee/ and /ea/ correctly. Students will participate in a range of reading activities that will support them in developing their phonological awareness. In particular focusing on learning to read known and unknown texts with fluency and use self-correcting skills.
English/Writing	Week 3&4: Students will be continuing to explore the use of persuasive writing. In particular focusing on their use of sentences using the 'because' conjunction when presenting examples of their arguments, the use of emotive language, as well as formulating and using contractions.
Maths	Week 3&4: Students will be building on their knowledge of subtraction and subtraction related to addition.
Inquiry (Health)	Week 3&4: Students will be investigating how families have changed over time, whilst gaining an understanding and respect for differences between families.
Social & Emotional Learning	Week 3&4: Students will be learning what it means to show respect, whilst practicing respect for each other through a multitude of tasks.

News and Reminders

Phonics books - Thank you to all the students who have brought in their phonics books to have the heart words and speed sounds added. If you haven't brought this in as yet, please do this as soon as you can. Words and sounds will not be sent home without it. If you have lost your phonics book please let your classroom teacher know so that it can be replaced.
Little Learners Love Literacy - Take home books must be returned to school and changed every week, along with their sign in books to be checked by the classroom teachers. If you are having difficulties with this, please contact your child's teacher.
