Prep Update

Upcoming learning

During the next fortnight, Prep students are undertaking learning in the following areas:

Reading	Week 4 & 5- Continuing out Fairytale unit! We will be reading a range of fairytakes, including Goldilocks, The Gingerbread Man, The Princess and the Pea and The Ugly Duckling . We are sequencing events in fairytales from the beginning, middle and the end. We will engage in daily Phonics lessons, focusing on the letter sounds /l/, /v/, /y/ and /r/ following the Little Learners Love Literacy sequence. We will be focusing on 2 sounds each week and working on sounding out and decoding words with learnt sounds.
Writing	Week 4 & 5- We will learn the correct letter formation of our focus letters. We will be writing about fairytales using our letter sound knowledge, attempting to sound out and record our thinking.
Maths	Week 4: We will be focusing on addition, adding 2 groups using the language of 'and' and 'altogether.' Week 5: We will be focusing on sharing a collection equally between groups.
Inquiry	Week 4: We are beginning out new unit on Change. What is change? How do things around me change? Week 5: How has television changed? We will be looking at classic television shows and how they have evolved over the years, focusing on Playschool this week.
Social and Emotional	Week 4 & 5- Our focus is honesty and patience.

As the weather is certaintly getting colder, please remember to clearly label all jumpers, jackets, beanies, ect. This helps teachers find the owners easily.
Please pack spare socks/pants in your child's bag. This will help us incase your child gets wet during play times on those rainy days
Blue reader bags and phonics books: Please bring these along to school every Wednesday.This is when your child's teacher will update with new sounds and words to read.
Heart words- Please continue to practice our heart words. These are words that children need to 'learn by heart' as they cannot decode them yet. Later in the program many Heart words will become decodable as children learn more of the alphabetic code.
