Interview with Tania Purton

Interview - Tania Purton

 Year 2 Teacher

How long have you worked at BNPS?

I started working at BNPS in 1994 in a Prep /Year 1 composite. I left in 2004 to have my first daughter Abbey and then had my second daughter Amelia in 2006.  I returned to full time teaching at BNPS in 2011. I am like part of the furniture.

How are you coping with remote teaching?

While I’d much rather be teaching my Year 2 students in person, I am really enjoying my online teaching this time around. I love it when I log in each morning just before 9.00 and see all the little faces pop up on my screen ready for the day’s learning. 2C is doing an amazing job and I am super proud of all of them.

Who  inspires you?

Samuel Johnson from Love Your Sister.

What is your favourite thing to do on the weekends?

At the moment my favourite thing to do is catch up with a friend for a COVID safe walk and spend time with my teenage girls.

When I’m not in Lockdown, I love to spend time with my extended family and friends. I like to go out for Brunch or dinner and go away on girls weekends. I also love to listen to Music and I am always singing around the house.

Are you an early bird or a night owl?

Both. I often get up early so I can get lots of things done, but I also stay up way too late.

If you weren't a teacher, what do you think you might be doing?

When I was at secondary school I wanted to be a social worker or an air hostess, but I am so glad I chose teaching which was my true love. If I wasn’t a teacher I think I would be a professional organiser. I love to sort out messy spaces in people’s houses.

What might someone be surprised to know about you ?

I was kissed on the cheek by Hugh Jackman when I went to see him in the Boy from Oz.

What’s something you saw recently that made you smile?

Talking to my great nephews Hamish and Hudson who live in Townsville. They always say funny things.

If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would you choose ?

That’s a tricky one. I would probably trade places with the girls from the Home Edit as I love to organise messy spaces.

What would you like to say to your class?

I am so proud of you all and the way you are navigating online learning. You all contribute and participate in all the activities and are showing great resilience, patience and perseverance. Keep up the great work. From Mrs Purton
