Year 5 News

Once again, the Year 5 teachers are proud of the way the students have adapted to learning online. They are becoming experts in Teams and OneNote!

It’s been wonderful for our students to share some of their home life with us, pets have been a particularly welcome addition to our online classrooms. To keep our days balanced, we often have themed fun days, some have included disco day, colour day, crazy hat/hair day and oodie day.  Student well-being is our top priority and we are trying hard to keep our students engaged and connected.

We are pleased that our learning has flowed from the classroom to the online world almost seamlessly and we are continuing to work through the curriculum as normal. This term our business and economics Unit of Inquiry focuses on economic decision making, our responsibilities as consumers and learning about and participating in paid work. Prior to RL, students were invited to apply for job positions and have been busy performing their role in order to earn a weekly salary. Some of the roles include bank managers, payroll clerks, journalists, gameshow hosts, auctioneers and police officers. Students are responsible for maintaining their own personal budget with weekly income and deductions.

A highlight of the week has been our Friday auctions and gameshows. Students are encouraged to create or make an item for sale in our class auctions. Classes have had lots of fun bidding and competing against each other to purchase these masterpieces or to win the gameshow grand prize.

Last week, we got hands on for science week, examining the different states of matter with a selection of experiments on offer for students to participate in and write about.

We hope you enjoy viewing some of the images from the last couple of weeks. Enjoy reading our class newsletters, created by our very own journalists and photographers!
