Niina Marni,

Bush medicine comprises traditional medicine used by Australia’s First Nations people. Our school’s bush tucker garden includes bush medicine. Traditionally, the bush medicine plant leaves were dried, grinded down to powder and smaller pieces using stones then boiled in animal fat for hours to extract the essential oils from the plant. It is then solidified to the consistency of lip balm or Vaseline. It was then used to rub on the chest for colds, the skin for eczema, added to hot water to breathe in as a vaporiser, and many other applications for a wide range of ailments.

Nunga group made bush medicine soap by adding bush medicine to a soap base, adding essential oils for scent and natural food colouring for colour. We made unicorns and cacti!
