Teaching and Learning

Room 3

Room 3  (Year 1 and Year 2) have been doing an author study this term on Aaron Blabey, the amazing author of the super funny Pig the Pug books.

We analysed the features of the books, and the similarities and differences of each book in the series.

Students then created their own books using the features of Aaron Blabey's books and bookmaking techniques that we have been studying this year. We have drawn our own Pig the Pug illustrations throughout our books and our artwork is also displayed in the corridor outside out classroom.

Here are our front covers and some of our beginnings

Japanese News

こんにちは,

Konnichiwa

Did you know that Room 1 & 2 have been learning to read numbers in Japanese? We consolidated our learning by following our 'Olympic Medal Tally' for Australia and Japan. The students challenged themselves to read higher numbers each day as the tally grew. Can your child teach you some numbers in Japanese? Can they tell you the final medal tally results using these pictures?

Science News

Rooms 1-6 have been investigating minibeasts in the school yard this week. They thought about which animals they might find in the yard and then tried to find some under rocks and logs. Some animals they found were millipedes, worms, spiders, woodlice and ants. They have also been investigating different small animals they could find in their own backyards.

Which animals can YOU find in your backyard?

Kitto's PE News

This term we have been learning about badminton across all year levels. Badminton is a fast and skillful game which can be enjoyed at all levels, from backyard all the way to the Olympics. All students had opportunity to develop skills that can be transferred to a range of other sports.

Our students enjoyed all games and challenges from using a balloon to playing games with tactical challenges. We would like to thank our coaches from Badminton SA for the excellent program that was inclusive and super enjoyable for all participants.

In other news, our knockout girls netball and boys footy teams are now preparing for their second rounds of games in the next few weeks, whilst our boys basketball team is set to play their first round next week. Good luck to all students!

We have also begun trials for the Airport District Athletics day for the 200m and 800m events. Over the next fortnight we will be trialing students for 100m, high jump, long jump, shot put and discus. As always, its great to see so many students giving these events a go.
