The role of the father has changed over the years. Many of us are raising our kids very differently to how our fathers did when we were growing up and we are faced with very different challenges. We invite you to secure your ticket to our informative breakfast panel discussion, hosted by Peter Rowsthorn and our diverse panel will share how they, as fathers, have adopted new approaches in this constantly changing world.

Our panel to discuss fathering in a changing world comprises some of our state’s most accomplished individuals. Here are some brief introductions.

 

Peter Rowsthorn – Host A current John XXIII College parent, Peter is a stand-up comedian, actor and writer. He first came to prominence as a writer and performer for The Comedy Company in 1989, though he is probably best known as Brett Craig on the hit series Kath & Kim. 

 

Karl O’Callaghan

Karl is the former WA Police Commissioner, a position he held for more than 13 years until 2017. He was formerly a career police officer, serving for more than 43 years. He has been awarded the Australian Police Medal and is a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow, awarded for outstanding community service. Karl is a supporter of The Fathering Project.

 

Simon Garlick

Simon played AFL between 1994 and 2004, clocking over 100 games with the Western Bulldogs before retiring in 2004. He was CEO of the Western Bulldogs for four years from 2010. He then served as CEO for Bastion Collective before becoming CEO of the Fremantle Football Club in 2019.

 

Adrian Arundell

Adrian is the Joint Managing Partner of Azure Capital with over 20 years of experience in corporate advisory. He is a Director of St John of God Health Care and a Director of the University of Notre Dame Australia. In 2009, Adrian received a WA Business News ‘40under40’ Award, recognising WA’s top 40 young business leaders.

 

Adam Simpson

Adam is a former AFL footballer, now coach of the West Coast Eagles. He played 306 games for North Melbourne, won two premierships, won the club’s Fairest & Best, made the All-Australian Team in 2002 and captained his side from 2004-2008. Adam began his coaching career in 2010 as an assistant coach at Hawthorn, and was appointed Senior Coach for the West Coast Eagles in 2013, winning the 2018 AFL premiership.

 

Peter Fitzpatrick AO, AM (Mil), FSAE, GAICD, JP 

Peter is widely respected for his contributions as CEO of the peak bodies for both the legal profession and the motor industry. He had a distinguished 20-year military career, including service with the elite Special Air Service Regiment. He is currently a director on eight boards – chairing six – and he is an adviser and patron to a number of veteran and mental health organisations. Peter is a John XXIII College Alumnus from the St Louis Class of 1960.
