Climate survey

Measurement and accountability are of vital importance for a good school. Yet the wise saying accredited to Einstein 'not everything that can be counted counts and not everything that counts can be counted' applies to the world of schools. Common sense must prevail.

The survey distributed to students, staff and parents provides an opportunity for some analysis of life at the College and I encourage members of our community to provide information to enable our school improvement processes to continue. We are using a survey instrument that enables comparison across Catholic schools and more specific John XXIII questions will follow in due course.

This week, members of our College Leadership Team attended a seminar with other Catholic school leaders. Part of the day involved a consideration of ‘Quality Catholic Education’ (QCE) and its four pillars of Catholic Identity, Education, Community and Stewardship. These important pillars will help inform our future strategic direction.

The legendary Spanish cellist, Pablo Casals, was asked why he continued to practice at the age of 90.

'Because I think I’m making progress', he replied.

It is an excellent approach to life in general and certainly applicable to our College.

Measuring the ‘climate’ at our Year 4 Musical, ‘Bugs’, would have been enlightening. The talents of our young students were on display in a production that ensured participation from every student across the two Year 4 classes. Producer and Director, Ms Sasha Cattapan, did an amazing job leading the production and she was well supported by Musical Accompanist, Mrs Catherine Haydon, other staff, parents and musicians. It is an event eagerly anticipated each year and it was a celebration of the gifts and talents of many within our community. Congratulations to all involved.

2022 Bursary awarded

We are excited to announce that the College has awarded its first official bursary commencing in 2022, following the launch of the program. This program is made possible through the generosity of the John XXIII College community in donating to the Foundation’s Bursary Fund.

A stringent application and selection process has been undertaken and the student who has been selected to receive this needs-based bursary will be commencing at the College in 2022 - with the Foundation paying their annual tuition fees for the duration of their education at John XXIII College.

Thank you to all members of the John XXIII College community who have generously made a donation to the Bursary Fund to change the life of future John XXIII College students.
