What's happening in our classrooms 

Grade 2

So far this term has been topsy turvy for everyone. We have been at school and online for our learning. The students have shown great resilience and complete their work with a positive attitude. We have tried to make the tasks interesting and included some fun activities and games for the students to participate in.

Reading 

Throughout online learning, the students have been learning how to make inferences using their prior knowledge and evidence from the text to understands the characters feelings and the plot of the story. They have also been summarising fiction and non-fictions text by highlighting key ideas and writing them in their own words. The students have had the opportunity to record themselves reading and participate in reading conferences on Teams. 

Writing

After meeting with Steven Graham, students have been participating in lessons that have been modelled by him, this includes writing recounts and descriptive texts. The students have been writing creative and engaging descriptive writing during online learning which makes their work more interesting. 

Numeracy 

In Numeracy, the students have been developing their understanding of addition, money and data. For addition, students have shown multiple strategies to help solve addition equations. During the money lessons, the students created their own shops where they then showed the correct money used to purchase the items from the shops. The students have also learnt how to use a tally to collect information. 

Inquiry 

This term, we are learning about how places and things change over time. The students were asked to interview a family member to see the similarities and differences of then and now. We will be looking at different landmarks in Melbourne and investigating what has changed or stayed the same over the years.

Book Week 

We celebrated Book Week by dressing up as our favourite character and participating in a Teams meeting. The students were able to complete book reports, write about their costumes and their favourite character. We had heaps of fun sharing our favourite characters from our favourite books.
