White Card Training & Work Experience Update

Construction Induction Training

On Tuesday 7 September, fifteen Year 10 students participated in Construction Induction Training, also known as the White Card. This course prepares students to work safely in the Construction Industry. Students learnt about the health and safety legislative requirements in construction and hazards and risk control measures. They also learnt about the topics of health and safety communication, reporting processes, as well as incidence and emergency response procedures. Students now have an understanding of how to be aware of their surroundings and how to take care of themselves and others when working on a construction site. A few of our Year 10 students have shared their experience of participating in the Construction Induction Training below.

Last week I completed the White Card Certification. I have been wanting to get this qualification to help me get a job in the future within the Building and Construction Industry. This course taught me all about how to safely work on a construction site. I recommend people do this as it is a one-day course that you can keep for the rest of your life.

The White Card training course is definitely something that will be of great use to me in my future. I have always had my mind set on being an architect and visiting things like construction sites is a big part of that job. Although we were unable to visit any construction sites due to COVID-19, the online adaptation was still just as engaging and eye opening. Even if the course doesn't align with your career, it is still worth broadening your horizons by learning new things. The White Card training allowed me to not only get access to construction sites, but also educated me further on how to be cautious and understand what procedures need to be done to fix dangerous or life-threatening situations. It also taught me new skills which are going to be really handy for obstacles I may face any time in my future.

The experience was great especially with the teacher from Edway Training making the course enjoyable and easy to understand. Having completed the course, I am now ready and prepared to pursue jobs within the Trade Industry.

Year 10 Work Experience Update

Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, the Year 10 Work Experience Program will not be running as anticipated from 4 - 8 October. As a result, students will commence timetabled classes following the Term 3 school holidays, on Monday 4 October.

We would like to thank our students and school community for all the work they put in throughout the year, searching, contacting and adjusting their Work Experience placement. We are disappointed, however we remain hopeful that we can provide alternative work-based opportunities later in the year.

Students are required to contact their employers to advise that scheduled placements for 4 - 8 October will not run. Should a student require assistance communicating with their employer or you require further information, please do not hesitate to contact Stephanie Martin or Jack Crameri.
