Year 5 and 6

Perspectives of Australia’s History in 5/6:

Over the last few weeks students have continued to explore how perspectives of Australia’s history shapes what we know today. Students have looked deeper into the devastating impacts on Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander people and culture.  Our class text, Nanberry by Jackie French, has helped us to understand more. After reading, students have had a chance to show their understanding. This week we used QR codes, Padlet and a new digital tool - Miro.

We have now begun applying our new understanding of settlement and vocabulary words to create picture story books. Students have chosen a specific perspective for their main characters such as convict women, Indigenous children, mob elders, British officers and even medical assistants. Students have strived to include a range of new words such as weevils, pustules, bracken, wretched and rancid.
