Classroom Reports

Foundation & 1

It was wonderful seeing all the completed 'Remote Learning' work that was returned, especially the sentence writing.  This continues to be our focus, making sure our sentences start with a capital letter, end with a full stop and there are spaces between each word. Children have been given photographs as prompts for their sentences. These prompts can help us when we are struggling with ideas on what to write.  We are also encouraged to say the word we are writing, out loud so we can hear the sounds and record the sounds we can hear.  Using our 'Tricky Word' list helps us to copy these words. Remember, Wednesday are opportunities to enjoy the spring weather with a walk and talk.  You might find inspiration for your writing!

Mrs Tanya Chalmers, Teacher

Year 1 & 2

I hope everyone has been able to get outside and enjoy the start of Spring. Have you noticed some changes in the garden or weather? You could use these changes in nature to help you complete the Spring acrostic poem or complete the mindful colouring sheets. Is it your favourite season?

Well done to everyone who has been busy completing work at home and school. Please feel free to email/ring me with any questions or concerns.

Keep up the great work .

Mrs Deidre McKenzie, Teacher

Year 3 & 4

I hope that Remote Learning is going well for students at home. It is great to see most students have handed back their maths work from Week 7 & 8. A common misunderstanding is vertical addition and subtraction involving trading, please use whatever resources you can find at home to assist with trading accurately.  It is important to trade with subtraction rather than the old style of adding a 1 (sorry to any parents/carers over the age of 40!!)

Those at school have been working hard on their booklets and having fun in the afternoons. I hope you have been enjoying your afternoons and Wednesdays off.

From The Garden

Chelsie, Destiny and Meika
Chelsie, Destiny and Meika

This term Miss Higgins' Grade 3/4 class have wanted to be more involved with the school chooks and playing an active role for their wellbeing. The students have put together a poster letting everyone know if the chooks have been let out in the mornings or put to bed at the end of the day. Chelsie Tansley, Destiny Donald and Meika Collins go up to the garden before school starts each day to let the chooks out and collect any eggs laid. The students also make sure there is enough food and water for the chooks which is very important.

The Grade 3/4 class have also spent times in the afternoons cleaning up rubbish in and around the garden.

Thank you to Miss Higgins and the Grade 3/4 class for showing interest and being responsible.

Year 4 & 5

Together, we made it through the ups and downs of Term 3. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your willingness to support your child and complete work provided.

I wish everyone a wonderful spring break and I look forward to seeing everyone again in Term 4.

Mrs Carlie Turnbull, Teacher

Year 5 & 6

A reflection on Term 3.

This term Ms Purkiss has come into the classroom and given us a new zest for Maths and English. Enhancing problem solving skills and analytical thinking.

We have also had various students invited to participate in extra-curricular activities and programs, focusing on Art, Math and English separately.

Our Music/ Recorder practices are coming ahead in leaps and bounds with some stand out students. Great work and practice to Jake and Nada.

This term, lockdown has been a bit different, we have had more and more students at school each day. For those who have attended we have been able to ‘hone-in’ on very specific academics. For all of us that has meant filling in gaps and extending ourselves beyond what we thought we were capable of.

Ms Purkiss and I would like to finish off this term in saying we are very proud of all of you. Each and every student in their own way has displayed Respect, Responsibility, and Resilience.

We look forward to seeing you all together again next term.

Mrs Annita Steel and Miss Amy Purkiss, Classroom Teachers.

PE - Primary and Secondary

Last week Mr Pettifer gave students a remote learning challenge to get them outside and moving. Students were asked to complete a throwing challenge using a bucket, a pair of socks (rolled into a ball) and 3 shoes for markers. Star jumps, fast moving and accurate throwing were essential to complete this challenge in under the 1 minute. Students could enter to win a $60 PE prize pack by emailing a video or photo participating in the challenge. It was pleasing to see a large number of entries from across primary and secondary years but even more pleasing to see students getting active during remote learning. Congratulations to all that got involved.

The winner was drawn by Joan Earl on Monday afternoon and was announced on Mr Forrest’s online assembly on Wednesday. The winner was Scott Reid of Year 8. Well Done Scott. Mr P will have your prize for you once we return to face to face learning. Great Stuff.

The E&C’s Pop-Up-Shop has been postponed with a date yet to be determined. It may be later this term.  In the meantime, order forms and money can be returned in an envelope to the front office.

E&C’s Pop-Up-Shop is a short-term business activity being organised by Year 11 Business Management students. It is a fundraising initiative and all profits from the day will be donated to the Parents Association. The theme of the day will be

Welcome to Week 9 of Term 3. Our next newsletter article will be for the beginning of Term 4 and it’s almost hard to believe that the end of the academic year for our senior students is almost upon us.

This edition of the newsletter will focus on looking forward to the Term 3 School Holidays and beginning of Term 4.

WebEx participation and communication:

We would like to remind all students to be regularly checking in with their teachers, checking their Learning Tasks through Compass for feedback, feed forward and ensuring they are actively participating in all WebEx classes. This means that you need to use your video when asked and either participate through verbal or written discussion.

Students are also reminded to respond to teacher communication through email in a timely fashion.

Year 12 ‘Holiday classes’:

Holiday classes for Unit 3 & 4 students will take place in the first week of the school holidays. These classes will be in person and on-site unless restrictions change or teachers make alternative arrangements. See timetable below.

GAT postponed:

The GAT has again been rescheduled to Tuesday 5th October 2021.

The rescheduling of the GAT allows schools time to organise logistics and put COVID Safe protocols in place, so that students and staff can return onsite to participate safely.

It's important that as many students as possible have the opportunity to sit the GAT. The new date will allow students who may be impacted by school closures, quarantine and the need to self-isolate to participate in the test. At this stage, the GAT will still take place at the Wedderburn Trotting Pavilion. If this changes, students and families will be notified. Please speak with Mrs Barker or Mrs Woodman if you would like any further information

End of year VCAA Examinations:

The official VCAA Examination period will begin on Wednesday October 27 with the VCE English exam and conclude on Wednesday November 17 with the VCE VET Community Services exam.

All students have been provided with a hard copy of the examination timetable. A digital version is available to view from: https://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/administration/Key-dates/Pages/VCE-exam-timetable.aspx

Notice from Minister of Education:
