Sustainable Scarecrows School Competition

The Grade 6 Arts Leadership Team - Henry Reiser, Yasmin Sands, Dexter Wintle and Carina Wong have spent time over the past few weeks creating a Sustainable Scarecrow for entry into the Sustainable Scarecrow Competition to be held at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show 2023

The focus of the project is on sustainability, so the students used recycled materials to build the scarecrow such as chip packets, plastic bags, flower pots and fabric samples that they sourced from home.

Their scarecrow, ‘Harry Highpants’ is made up of many features such as pants made from fabric samples, stuffed rubber gloves for hands with luscious fake nails, a jar lid watch, and a top hat adorned with stylish sunglasses. Although he’s not your typical scarecrow, he’s the BPS scarecrow and he has come to life thanks to the Arts Leadership Team.

The team would like to give a big thank you to their amazing art teachers, Miss Narelle and Miss MacDonald for all their guidance and time for this project.

The Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show will be held from 29 March to 2 April at the Royal Exhibition Building and Gardens.

If visiting the Show, please be sure to place a vote in the People’s Choice Award for Harry Highpants.
