VICTORIAN PREMIERS’ READING CHALLENGE

The Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge has begun and the students at Rowville Primary School are excited to be taking part. Every student will participate in this years Reading Challenge. The Challenge encourages students to be actively involved in their reading. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by September 2023. Students talk about the books they read with friends and family and they push themselves to read as many books as they can.

The students in Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 will be sharing 30 books with their classroom teachers. Students in Years 3 to 6 are challenged to read 15 books. Everyone who meets the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement.

More information about the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge can be found at https://www.vic.gov.au/premiers-reading-challenge

Let’s all embrace the power and joy of reading.

WORLD STORYTELLING DAY

Monday 20 March 2023 was World Storytelling Day. For me, every day is filled with stories! Having a day dedicated to stories worldwide just makes the art of storytelling even more special. The Book Bugs on Monday (one of our lunchtime program groups) discussed our favourite stories and here is what the students said:

“My favourite book is The Witches by Roald Dahl because everyone turns into mice.” – Ammara 3B

“I like the book called This is a Ball by Beck and Matt Stanton because it’s hilarious!”– Ben 2A

Stories link us to others. We can learn from them, we can retell them, we can listen and understand others, and we can dream, imagine and wonder about things. Stories can grow and connect. They can make us laugh or cry. Be curious, enjoy reading and share a story today!
