From Our School Leaders

It has been a busy couple of weeks here at Scoresby Primary School, with our students engaged in a number of different activities.

NAPLAN

The 2023 NAPLAN testing schedule has finished, with our Year 3 and 5 students completing 4 tests - Reading, Writing, Language Conventions and Mathematics. All testing was completed in the hall, which was set up each morning.  The hall is set up by staff who log onto the computers to get everything ready. Our teachers work very hard to make the experience of NAPLAN testing as comfortable and supportive as possible for our students.

The NAPLAN testing scheme is going to be re-set this year to make it more friendly for parents.  The report will give a clearer picture of where your child is sitting against level expectations, across the nation. The bands measures will be removed and be replaced with following measures – Exceeding, Strong, Developing, Needs additional support.

Harmony Week – Everyone Belongs

Harmony Week is the celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, our students were involved in a World Dance incursion, where they had an amazing time listening to music from around the world and learning a range of cultural dances.

On Wednesday we had our Harmony Week-themed Breakfast Club.  Breakfast was a huge hit with orange and purple pancakes as well as fruit, cereal and toast on offer.  Thanks to Josh for organising the pancakes and the Harmony Week banner, and to our parent helpers on the day. The canteen was a very busy space!

Our final Harmony Week event will be this Friday 24th March, with our students and teachers invited to show their support of Harmony Week through wearing cultural dress or the colour orange.  Our assembly will be held at 9.00am on this day to allow time for a school parade.

Swinburne University – Children’s University

This year we are offering our Year 3/4 students the opportunity to go to University! The Children’s University (run through Swinburne University) is an innovative program that engages children and young people in exciting, out-of-school learning opportunities.

Participating in Children’s University is voluntary; the learning is led by the child in order to create greater motivation and engagement. Members learn about what they are interested in! Every participating student is recognised and rewarded with a graduation ceremony and certificates, giving them a true sense of pride in their accomplishments – and aspiration for their future endeavours. The cost of participating this program is $11.00 for the year.

If you would like more information, or for your child to participate, please contact Nic Rheumer nicole.rheumer@education.vic.gov.au

Drop-Off And Pick-Up Times

We would like to remind our school community to be aware of potential accidents that could be caused at drop-off and pick-up times.  We are beginning to notice some students are not using the crossing to cross the road and there was a near miss of a student who had a car back out of a driveway as they were walking past. Please remind your children to cross at our crossings and beware of cars reversing, pulling out into traffic and to not walk through the school carpark at these times.

Clean Up Our School / Working Bee                   Friday 24th March, 2.30– 4.00pm

This Friday 24th March we are having our first Working Bee for the term. This is a combined parent and children Working Bee, where classes will also be involved in cleaning up our school.

Each class has been allocated an area and job to do to help tidy up our school.  We invite parents to come along and join their child in this event. We also require help with some of the bigger jobs of pruning and mulch moving.

Children are asked to bring gloves with them to school and a bag to collect rubbish in.

School Council Elections

Our School Council elections have been completed for this year and we are pleased to announce our School Council for 2023.
