School Council new

Dear CJC community,
The School Council will now publish a summary of the discussions that are held during our meetings. While certain discussions are confidential by nature, we will endeavour to give our school community more visibility about “what is keeping us awake at night”.
The CJC School Council met on Monday 20 March and welcomed the PC President Amy Pate, Issy Arieli and Marc Warshall as new members. I want to thank Tom Roth and Benjamin Avanzi for their valuable contributions during their tenure at the School Council.
We held the election of the office bearers for 2023, and are pleased to announce the following positions: Joseph Chang as President, Adina Nijemcevic as Vice President and Marc Warshall as Treasurer. The School Council has organised its work in six sub-committees.
- Finance – Convenor: Marc Warshall
- Policy development – Convenor: Craig Jacobs
- Outside School Hours Care – Convenor: Adina Nijemcevic
- French Elective – Convenor: Asmine Hammadou
- Building & Grounds and Masterplan – Convenor: Charlie Porter
- School identity and community engagement – Convenor: Maud Rocher-Vagedes
The School Council is always keen to have member of the school community to join and support our work. Except for the Finance sub-committee, other sub-committees welcomes volunteers who are keen to contribute in specific areas. If you are interested in joining one of the sub-committees, please reach out to the school office and they will put you in touch with the convenors.
Coming School Council meetings for 2023:
- 15th May
- 19th June
- 24th July
- 21st August
- 23rd October
- 20th November
Key highlights of the School Council meeting:
- Chris Chant’s return to CJC expected on 24 April 2023
- Naplan for year 3 and year 5 started on 15 March 2023 and no issue was reported
- On 7 March, the school had its first open door session for many years, and had parents and guardians observe the students learning in their classrooms. The school received very positive feedback and will be looking at other opportunities to welcome families in the classrooms. It was noted that the community will ideally need more advance notice
- The school currently offers maths extension programs such as Maths Explorers and Maths Olympiads. This is a select entry based on student data.
- School curriculum and voluntary contributions are still lower than school’s needs. The school council will encourage the families to contribute so that the school can maintain all the curriculum initiatives (such as access to Mathletics, Reading Eggs etc) they have planned for this year
- The school council is looking at several initiatives to renovate the school’s building and grounds this year. The electronic signage at the front of the school was installed last week, and we expect more renovations including improvements of open space usable by our students at recess and lunch and our front office during the next school holidays. We want to thank the Parents’ Committee for their active support and all our community for your contributions and donations. Our school cannot run without the support of its community. We have some exciting plans to offer a better environment for our students and we will ensure you are being kept updated about our various initiatives.
- We also discussed the plan for seeking funding of the school masterplan which is a multi-year plan to modernise our school buildings and offer our students best-in-class facilities for their education and wellbeing
- After series of consultation between the school, EFM, HIP and PC, the combined calendar of events for 2023 was presented and approved by the School Council
