Visual Arts

Last week in Visual Arts, all students continued to work on the art elements of line shape and colour.  Foundation students continued to work on different types of lines, by first following my step-by-step instructions on how to draw a flower. They were then able to use oil pastels to create repeated lines and patterns within the petals of their flower. Some students then began to paint their flower with watercolour paint to give the resistance effect. Year 1/2 students continued to work on their inspired by Paul Klee art piece, where they drew a portrait of a person or an animal using a black marker over their last lessons water coloured background. Year 3/4 students began to create an abstract art piece by using different types of lines, patterns and shapes to create their zentangles within each section of their abstract drawing. Year 5/6 students continued to create their cardboard textured portraits by cutting and gluing facial features, painting their cardboard portrait which then allowed the students to create a print.

Culture Studies

This week in culture studies, students continued to understand the unique landmarks within Italy. Specifically, students learnt about the Colosseum, Leaning Tower of Pisa, and the Vatican City and the importance that they hold. Students in years 1 to 6 were able to create a pop-up card that represents their chosen famous Italian landmark. Foundation students learnt about Italy’s national flower and bird, where they made the brown sparrow. Students were also introduced to Italian language through numbers and colours.

Interschool Sports

Teeball – Round 4

In week 5 both teams played Cheltenham East Primary School. It was a great morning of sport with both teams having success. The girls team continued their winning ways, with a comfortable win 17-10, while the boys had their first win of the season 19-13.

Due to our numbers we do have an extra friendly game amongst ourselves for those that are still developing their skills and confidence within a competitive game.

All students have shown great sportsmanship and teamwork, and encourage each other to have fun and do their best.

This weeks game is against Kingston Health Primary School.

Student Vs. Teachers Lunch Time Games

Grade 3/4 Vs. the Teachers

Following on from last weeks game against the 5/6s, this week it was the 3/4s turn to take on the teachers. Another sunny day saw a great turnout from both teachers and students and it was a great dual between both groups. The teachers had a little more strength and came out victorious, but all students had a great time and again there was great support from the sidelines from all the students.

This weeks game the teachers take on Grades 1/2 in a modified and varied game of dodgeball.

Thanks Mr Bradley

PE and Health

Over the last two weeks of Health we completed our discussions about emotions and started thinking about Personal Character Strengths. Students have explored what Personal Character strengths are and how they are useful in allowing people to learn and thrive. By understanding one’s personal character strengths and areas for development, people can support themselves to be their best and also help others when they need support. The preps had a focus on being Brave and to try new things, as well as listening and self control.

Last week in PE, years 1-6 participated in a one off Hockey program provided by our local hockey club at Kingston Heath Reserve. Students learnt new skills and played some games to learn how to play hockey. It was a fun day for all.

This week in PE, students in years 1-6 have continued to learn the skills, rules and game play of teeball. They have developed their skills of catching and throwing with a glove, then some hitting off the tea and then progressing onto a game. All students have shown great development in their skills and have thoroughly enjoyed playing the game.

The prep classes have been focusing on running skills, playing fun games with a focus on eyes looking forward, pumping arms and high knees. The students listening has improved dramatically.

Music at Le Page Primary School, Term 1, 2023 – Susie Davies-Splitter – Miss Susie

We are having a lot of fun in music every week. 🎶🥁🎵🎹

In the prep and grade 1&2 classes we are focussing on singing songs, finger plays, listening, singing games, musical stories, movement and dance and playing percussion instruments.

To hear all of the songs from the Little Learners Love Literacy Program, click here to hear them on Spotify and click here for Apple Music. To watch Milo Monkey animation videos on our YouTube channel – click here for Jack the Jellyfish and here for Oscar the Octopus.

In grades 3&4 – we sing songs, move our bodies to music and our main focus is to learn the recorder. We also play bucket drums and marimbas.

In grades 5&6 - we are singing, doing body percussion, moving and playing marimbas, bucket drums, xylophones and chime bars.

A huge thank you to Mr Danson for donating his keyboard to the school – I’ve already started playing it and the kids are very excited to hear it and play it too!

In term 2, we will be starting a Grade 3-6 Le Page Choir. This will be on Tuesdays at lunchtime from 1.10 – 1.40pm in the hall. We will sing a range of songs in many different styles with actions, dance moves, AUSLAN signing and some instrumental accompaniments. Performances will take place at events such as assemblies, school occasions and other concerts. There are no auditions – all we require is lots of enthusiasm, a great attitude, a commitment to come along to all rehearsals and a love of music. Hope to see you there!!

Library Newsletter

Our library is ever growing and changing! We started off the year in an amazing way, interviewing students who wanted to be part of the team, and subsequently “hiring” our leaders. They have been so helpful and motivated, twice a week at recess scanning books, tidying shelves, putting stickers on new items and making decorations.

There are also lots of new displays about the library in the BER building, so come in and have a look!

Have a lovely weekend and keep on reading,

Miss Anna
