Fantastic 3/4

Fantastic 3/4

Term 1 Week 6 2023

What have we been up to?

In Literacy, the students have continued to build their knowledge on narratives. The students have been looking at how to make their writing more interesting, by adding detail through the five senses (sight, sound, touch, taste, smell) and incorporating action starter paragraphs.

In Maths, students are continuing to  the place-value concept,  where they will be learning to partition, rearrange and regroup numbers to at least tens of thousands. We have been having lots of fun using MAB blocks, charts, dice and cards to support our learning.

In inquiry, students continue to look at their Civics and Citizenship unit of work. Students described words that they associate with belonging and not belonging. We watched the book “I’m Australian too” by Mem Fox highlighting that we all come together as one. Students wrote their own version creating a class book, about where their parents/carers were born as well as themselves.

In Science, students investigated various forces which come into play in traditional sports and games of Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander peoples.

Here’s what we have been up to:

What’s coming up?

Next week year 3 students will undertake their Literacy and Numeracy NAPLAN test, whilst the year 4’s continue with our regular learning.

Literacy

Throughout the next couple of weeks, students will begin to read and write a variety of persuasive texts. They will learn how to present an argument to support their opinion. We will also focus on being able to list vocabulary in a persuasive text, editing, rewriting important parts and listing arguments on both the ‘for’ and ‘against’ sides.

Numeracy

Students will begin to recognise and explain the connection between addition and subtraction. Students will also be given open ended tasks to demonstrate their strength by coming up with a variety of solutions from one question.

Students will continue to look at number lines and decimals as well as focusing on the connection between addition and subtraction.

Science & Inquiry

In Science, we will continue our Physical Science unit. Students will continue to learn about different types of forces such as frictional force, tension force, normal force, air resistance force, applied force and spring force. In Inquiry, students will start looking at volunteering and will be able to identify groups in the local community and will explore their purpose.
