Principal's Report

Simone Wood, Principal

Hi Everyone,

Thank you to families who have returned their Easter Egg raffle-ticket money. If you need more tickets, the office can help you!

Like me, if you have coins left over after buying your tickets, please hang on to them.

We have a couple of uses for them coming up!

Firstly on Harmony Day, 22nd March, there will be a gold coin donation for

a casual clothes day

in support of the Asylum seeker resource centre

and then

In the last week of school we will be asking students to bring in coins of every colour from Monday 3rd April to particpate in some coin activities on the last day of school (ie. laying them end to end to see how far around the court can we reach). All the coins brought in during the last week will be donated to the Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal.

Assembly

Below are some photos from assembly last week. Thank you to Mrs Hood and the choir for their beautiful songs. The choir performed at the 'Relay for Life' in Lancefield, which I hear was very well received. Well done everyone!

Also in the photos are both summer sports teams with the flag won by the cricket team (see the sports page). Our new seating format of the open rectangle allows for audience particpation. In the above photo you can see a student up and about, demonstrating a game played in French speaking Africa.

NAPLAN

NAPLAN begins next week for years 3 & 5. Under the new format from the department of Education, the testing period has been brought forward in the year and we have a 'testing window'. Next week is the main week for the testing to be done with the following week available for catch up testing for students who have been absent.

We are to test in order as follows. Writing, Reading, Conventions of grammar and Numeracy. NAPLAN is only one form of assessment that we use. All schools regularly use a number of forms of assessment for their students. If you have any questions about NAPLAN please see your child's teacher.

Check out these pages

On the School Council news page. We have a ballot for positions on school council going home to families this week. Further information on the page will explain how to vote and the time frame for completion of the ballot.

Our student leaders have written an update from the sustainability and school leaders, please take some time to read their contribution on their page.

It is really exciting that Newham Primary school has received a Sustainability grant which is going toward our students' work with Newham landcare on an important local project. The sustainability page has further details.

Photos from a day

If you haven't been in to see the 5/6 class in action, you are missing something! Here are a group of students working at one of the stand up cloud tables. The 5/6 room has a choice of tables for different learning styles and projects.

Thank you to Narelle and a group of 5/6 students who are transforming the library in the main building. They are ensuring that all the books are back in the system, that there is an easy to find place on the shelves for each book and that students have a place specifically to return their books so that they can be shelved correctly. They have been a huge help to Christabel.

Henry came to share what he had been doing. This didn't take him very long at all.

What a fantastic job!
