Principal's Patch

Scott Anderson

It is hard to believe it is already the end of Term 1. I hope everyone has a great Easter and a safe and happy school holidays.  We return to school on Monday 17th April.

It has been another big term of learning and I would like to thank the amazing staff for everything they have done this term to ensure every student is succeeding.

If you are travelling over the holidays please travel safely and take care.

P&C  AGM

At our last P&C Meeting, we were unable to fill any P&C Executive positions. As a result, we are holding a special AGM on Thursday 20 April at 4:30pm (in the staffroom) to form a P&C Executive Committee.

This is a serious situation as without an Executive Committee, our P&C will be dissolved.  What does this mean?

•             None of the fun stuff our current P&C run: Discos, Mother’s and Father’s Day stalls,                   meal deals, slime runs, fetes, trivia nights.

•             No fundraising opportunities to improve our school facilities.

•             Less parent voice sharing ideas of how our school can continue to improve.

So, if you’ve ever thought about putting your hand up, now’s the time to step up. Come on your own, come with a friend, come with 10 friends.  Just turn up!

I would like to thank our current P&C for agreeing to continue in their roles until this meeting.

Cross Country

We are very much looking forward to our school Cross Country being held on Palm Beach on Wednesday 19th April. Parents are more than welcome to attend and we would love to see you all lining the beach cheering the kids on. Please keep an eye on your e-mails, social media and dojo for ongoing information.

Dangerous Tree Removal

Unfortunately, one of our trees will have to be removed over the holidays. This tree poses a risk to the health and safety of people within our school grounds.  The tree located near the hall has been inspected by an arborist who has identified that tree has signs of delamination within the cambium layer on the right-hand main leader with significant dieback and cracking of the sub-straight timber.

Playgrounds

We want to remind you that our school playgrounds are out of bounds after school hours.

There are a few reasons why we have this policy in place. Firstly, we have a responsibility to ensure the safety of our students at all times, and having unsupervised children (by staff) on the playground after school could present potential safety risks. Additionally, we want to prevent any damage to school property, which could result in costly repairs.

There are nearby public parks that can be utilised for this purpose.  Again, I ask for your support respecting our school policies so we can ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all students during school hours and beyond.

Yugambeh Language

As a school we believe it is very important to begin to teach students some of the local Yugambeh language. This term we have slowly started to introduce words into our school.

Firstly, we have added the Yugambeh language to our sporting houses; Dolphins - Gowanda, Stingrays – Wehm and Sharks – Bowai.

We have also revitalised our logos and include to include the Yugambeh language (below). Yugambeh language for our sporting houses will also feature on future orders of our sports shirts.

Students were introduced to the word for Good Afternoon on assembly - Bugal Yawun.
