Year 11 students Megan Okely and Riley Carkeek attended the annual Sandhurst Senior Student Leadership Day on March 2. Student leaders from schools across the diocese gathered to spend time together and hear from guest speakers. The theme for this year was 'Ethical and Servant Leadership'.

“My take away from the day was learning that a good leader needs to lead by example. A good leader does not tell people what to do and give directions. People will follow good leaders and this is how they have an impact. I also learnt that good leaders do not judge others or discriminate. They don’t predetermine what people are like; they walk in others' shoes and keep an open mind. I would like more opportunities like this day and would encourage other students to attend if they have the opportunity. Everyone was there for the same reason - they were all leaders. Most of the students were in Year 12 but it was good to get out of the comfort zone and meet new people.”

“I enjoyed the activities and meeting some new people. While I already knew a lot about leadership through Scouts, it was a great experience to gather with students from other schools. Instead of just talking about leadership, the speakers gave us lots of examples that we could apply to our own life. It was a good learning opportunity and I would recommend this event to any students who want to learn more about leadership.”
