Learning Updates -

School of Wonder

Morning routine reminder

School drop-off begins at 8:30am. Children come into their learning spaces and only remain in that space if they are reading with an adult. When reading is completed, children go outside and get some fresh air prior to Pastoral Group beginning at 8:55am. This will help to create a cohesive and calm beginning to our school days.

New and reorganised learning spaces

Our Years 1/2 Pastoral Groups have added to and reorganised their learning spaces. This reorganisation has enabled us to provide learning spaces that are less crowded and more cohesive to our college learning philosophies. Children have settled into these new spaces, relishing opportunities to explore new spaces and have more space to work in.

NAPLAN

NAPLAN assessments will take place over the next two weeks for our Year 3 children. It is a wonderful opportunity for children to be their best. NAPLAN guides our Learning Mentors in the development of appropriate and engaging learning opportunities for children.

Curriculum/Learning Update

Our Numeracy focus continues to be number: place value and whole numbers. Lessons include explicit teaching, student-led investigations (often using concrete materials) with a focus on numeracy in real-life situations.

In Literacy, children continue to build understandings of how sounds and words work through explicit teaching and investigations.

We encourage at-home reading four nights a week. Reading with your child/ren can be a wonderful time to share together. Discussing the book, characters, plot, predicting an alternative ending and making connections enables children to explore literature.

An awesome time had during iTime

Years 3/4 children have spent the first few weeks of term researching and collaborating on their very first iTime project of the year. We have explored the concept of function and “How does it work?” The ideas were very creative and the children did a great job putting together their projects and linking to our inquiry question. They were excited to share their work during their iTime project expo. It was great to see other children from our School of Wonder visiting during the expo.
