Out and About the School

National Young Leaders Day

Last week, our Student Leadership Team attended the Young Leaders Day in Sydney.

On Monday at assembly Sean Gander and Eugenie Goddard gave the following presentation to the school:

(Sean )  On the 7th of March, the Year 6 Leaders arrived in Sydney. The day after, they were going to be attending the National Young Leaders Day. We saw a number of people across New South Wales attend. We also saw a lot of fantastic speakers come to tell us all about leadership and pursuing their dreams. Some of these people consisted of Chris Green, Caitlin Bassett, Nazeem Hussain, His Excellency, the Honourable David Hurley, the  Governor-General of Australia, and Doctor Jordan Nguyen.

(Eugenie) On Monday we arrived at the luxurious Meriton, Kent Street. We unpacked and got ready for  dinner at the Black Bird at Darling Harbour. We had a delicious dinner together and afterwards we all had scrumptious Gelato at a water display. Many minutes later we had a long walk back to the Meriton, a quick swim and early to bed for our exciting next day. The morning of the Leadership conference we all had a yummy breakfast to prepare ourselves for the big day ahead of us. We all left the conference feeling enlightened and inspired by the amazing speakers and presenters, and guess what,............... we also saw Ezra!

(Sean) My favourite speaker was Doctor Jordan Nguyen. I liked him the most because I enjoyed the message he spread across the audience. Also, I enjoyed listening to him talk about the wheelchair he built that was controlled by the mind!.  I felt  most inspired when he told us about his injury and how after that he went ahead and persevered to improve people who suffered disabilities, here, his quote was put into action, One life, persist to improve many. I felt truly inspired to go and do good after that. What about you, Genie ?

(Genie) I 100% agree that Dr Jordan was an amazing speaker and we were all so fortunate to hear him speak. But my favourite was the former Australian Diamonds Netball Captain, Caitlin Bassett. She really inspired me to always keep trying and persist in everything that I do. She was very  inspiring to me and others. Fun fact… Caitlin was 6 foot at the age of 11!! I wish I could be that tall.

(Sean)  Wow, that is impressive, I hope I can get that tall too,

( Eugenie)  Now, she’s an astounding 6 foot 5!

(Sean)  Overall, we had a really great day and we learnt a lot. Thank you to all the parents for escorting us down. We really enjoyed our time in Sydney and we hope from that experience, not only can we grow as leaders but also as people.
