Positive Behaviour Learning (PBL) NEWS

Dear Parents and Carers,

Last week we invited our Parent Community to take part in a survey for the Positive Behaviour for Learning program we will be implementing at St Kevin’s this year. The PBL program is a whole-school framework that promotes positive behaviour across a school and helps schools develop safe and supportive learning environments. Explicitly teaching the schools expected behaviours and acknowledging students who display these positive behaviours is a major component of the PBL framework.

Our students, staff and parents also completed the survey this week to choose three values that we agree as a school community to be important for all at St Kevin’s. After compiling the results of the surveys our school community have decided that Respect, Responsible and Resilience will be the values our school will base our positive behaviour upon. These values will work in conjunction with our current school dispositions. We also acknowledge the importance of Kindness which will be explicitly taught through the value of Respect and Safety which will be taught and maintained through the value of Responsible.

Thank you to the parents who completed the survey for PBL. We will continue to update you on the progress we are making in implementing this program into our school and classrooms. In the meantime we hope that your child/ren begin to talk to you about the three values of Respect, Responsible and Resilience which will become common language in all areas of our school community. Maybe you could find the time to talk with your child/ren about what you think these three values mean or why you believe they are so important?

Take care,

Fiona George

Wellbeing Leader

This PBL news is so very exciting for us all.  The mantra will be

Respect, Responsible and Resilience.

I am wondering if there are any creative parents who may be interested in helping launch our VALUES.  I am hoping the students can create some characters or images and then these can be converted into graphic images.  There will be a campaign to launch and develop the understanding of Respect, Responsible and Resilience and what this looks like, sounds like and feels like at St Kevin’s.

Compass ONLY in Term 2

Reminder to download Compass. We currently have 37 parents who have not downloaded the app.  By Term Two this will be the ONLY form of communication.  It is so important that everyone gets onto it ASAP.  I am sending daily reminders to parents.

NAPLAN

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) for Years 3 & 5 students has been completed and the students were so calm and showed resilience!  The information from NAPLAN will provide the school with data that assists programming and planning.  It is a snapshot of learning and the teachers will use this data in conjunction with ongoing formative data to plan personalised teaching and learning for our students.  Hopefully results will be returned to parents in a timely manner.

Information clip by all teachers OUT THIS WEEK 🙂

Each parent will receive a short clip from the teachers (classroom, specialist and leaders).  This will outline classroom practise and routines, as well as expectations, academic and social.  I sincerely hope that each of you watch this clip and give us some feedback.  The clips are going to be on a private YouTube channel (links will be shared) in about two weeks then taken down.  Please be cyber safe. You can watch them in your spare time and send us an email or phone us to chat. These will be published this week!

Pamphlet sharing

We have lots of Open Day and Story Time brochures to distribute.  If you can assist us with this very important task please contact Fulvia Gerosolimo fgerosolimo@sktemplestowelr.catholic.edu.au or pop into the school office to collect some flyers.

Parent Helper

This week a parent helper notice will be distributed to all parents. Hopefully many of you will be able to support our learners by assisting in the classroom. Here is the information detailing when parent training will occur. Also included is some useful information about reading, particularly pertinent to the early years reading program.
