Excursions

Elective Visual Arts students up nice and close with Art Express and ‘flashy’ contemporary art
On the 28th of February, 2018 TCC Visual Arts students meandered down to Sydney to see the annual Art Express show at the Art Gallery of NSW where they perused the art works by high achieving Visual Arts students from 2017. Our students sat amongst 300 other students from NSW as they listened to three ex-students, represented in the show, divulge their art making processes for their body of work last year. After this leg of the journey, our students ventured across the city on foot to involve themselves in an art and technology workshop at the Museum of Contemporary Art. This workshop had them embracing small electrical circuits that allowed them to explore the creative possibilities of light, movement and control.
Reflecting on the experience, one Year 9 student observed: “I have never been to an art exhibition that big before, so I was definitely interested. The art show was filled with all kinds of artworks from sculptures to paintings … the HSC tips were really helpful. I think the next museum [the Museum of Contemporary Art] was more interactive and had artworks to do with light, movement and control which was really different. … Overall I think the excursion was a success. We all enjoyed ourselves and learnt new things and I think it may have brought the art students closer together as a group!”
I would like to extend a big thankyou to all the students who came to Sydney. You all participated in this mammoth day with a keen spirit of reflective and productive enthusiasm.
I look forward to taking you on the next creative adventure in the near future.

Kids' Lit Quiz
On Friday 16th March, we had a team of students from Years 5 & 6 represent the College at the "Kids' Lit Quiz". The "Kids' Lit Quiz", is an international competition for students 10-13 years that encourages students to celebrate their love of reading. ‘The Sport of Reading’ started over 25 years ago in New Zealand allowing children to enjoy their knowledge of the books they love in a team environment. This year was our first year attending the competitions and we would like to congratulate the team on their fine efforts in a tough competition. (Anya Kunzli, Shylah Fahey, Casey Sage, Kaitlyn Burns).
It was an exciting competition and our students represented the College well. A big congratulations also to Sophia Kunzli in Year 3 who came to watch for the day and won a book in one of the audience participation rounds.
Secondary Leadership - GRIP Course
On Tuesday 6th March TCC Year 12 Leaders Kaitlin Reeman, Joy Hobson, Adele Brotherton, Annie Duffin, and Iesha Gundy Clark attended a leadership conference and training day at Sydney Olympic Park. School Leaders from all over NSW were in attendance. Presenters inspired, challenged and facilitated concepts on leadership. Our leaders came away from the day with plenty of new ideas and thoughts about their leadership and school leadership.
In Term 3 both Year 12 and Year 11 Leaders will have an opportunity to attend a Christian Leadership Conference in Newcastle.
