Year 9 Outdoor Education Snorkelling Trip

Report by Edwin D (Year 9)

The Year 9 Outdoor Ed class led by Sam and Paul got to school early on Tuesday the 25th of February and we boarded the bus and headed two hours south to Aireys Inlet on the Great Ocean Road.

First, we went for a walk along the cliffs. Then it was time to go snorkelling. Our trip had been rescheduled from the previous Wednesday due to bad weather the week before and even today the visibility in the water wasn’t great with two-metre waves, so we went to Point Roadknight near Anglesea where conditions were better. We snorkelled with our guides for about an hour and then got back out and headed back to Aireys Inlet for lunch.

Soon after lunch at the park, we walked along the inlet and the beach, looked at fossils preserved in the cliffs, a seal flopping around on the beach and did some small rock climbing and wading through the water to access some caves. After thanking our guides for their excellent and entertaining tour teaching us about the reef life and formation of the land, we boarded the bus and headed home, but not without stopping at the ‘Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery’!

It was a great, fun and educational day and the class would like to thank our guides for the day as well as our teachers Sam and Paul for taking us down to Aireys Inlet.
