Awards Night Art Showcase

2019 Art

Congratulations to all the students who contributed to the amazing artworks on display at the awards night on Thursday last week and to the art team who worked for days preparing and installing the displays. This year the artworks consisted of year 7 to 12 ranging from paintings, collages, drawings, ceramics, photography, digital media and graphic designs. The visual communication classes presented artworks of perspective drawings, music & movie posters, digital mascot designs and stencil spray paintings.

Our special feature at the beginning of the showcase walk through gallery was the three terracotta totem poles. These totem pieces were hand crafted by year 8, 9 and 10 students who carved into the clay, originally designed symbols and imagery to represent the school values of Respect, Achievement and Responsibility. Year 7 artworks included aboriginal dreamtime bunyip inspired drawings with detailed zentangle designs as well as water colour still life paintings using composition and Rule of Thirds techniques. The year 8 Fantasy art students created mixed media collage artworks of mythical creatures they designed as well as ceramic dragon eggs and glazed coil bowls. This class also worked on a music mural painting on ceramic tiles as a tribute for the schools Music Department. The year 9’s studied portraiture and produced their own self-portraits inspired by Pablo Picasso with a cubism style using cut out geometric and organic shapes of paper, water colour and acrylic paints. This class also painted a series of Australian birds on ceramic tiles and work collaboratively on a large scale abstract mural painting of two baby Rainbow Lorikeets in memory of the family of birds that lived in the apple tree behind the library. The year 9’s also worked on paper sculptures that followed the theme of Ascending. The year 10 group researched the art of ceramics, ceramic and sculptural artists, analysed artworks and created their own abstract sculptures made of wood, wire, stocking and paint. The theme they were presenting was The Illusion of One’s Self. Students discussed and reflected on their own perception of themselves and evaluated how they interact with others in different social and educational situations. The VCE Studio Art class consisting of year 11 & 12 students presented some excellent final artworks and fantastic folios of a high standard. Congratulations to those students who worked really hard and for those who received amazing study scores for this subject I am very proud and wish you all the very best in your chosen pathways to fulfil your potentials and enjoy your journey towards a bright and hopefully art filled future.
