eLearning

The Digital Technologies curriculum is alive and well at St Finbar’s.  The Year 2s have recently been introduced to some basic coding concepts through the iPad App Scratch Jr.  They have learnt to use block coding and this was tied in to their current Faith Life unit on Water.  The students were asked to use coding to develop a story about pollution in our oceans.

There was much excitement in Year 5 last week when the students got the opportunity to explore our new Makey Makey kits for the first time.  Makey Makey is an electronic invention tool that allows users to connect everyday objects to computer programs. Using a circuit board, alligator clips, and a USB cable, the toy uses closed loop electrical signals to send the computer either a keyboard stroke or mouse click signal.  The Year 5s hooked their Makey Makeys up to their Chromebooks and explored what they could do with them using the Scratch coding program They will eventually use the Makey Makeys to create their own interactive museum exhibit about key aspects of Australian history...a great combination of our Digital Technologies and History curriculum.
