Deputy Principal's Report

Dear Parents & Friends,

On Monday, as you know, we had our school photos taken for this year. It was great to see the perfect hair and uniform and the pride we all felt as members of the St Finbar's School Community. Each child's individual and class photo will no doubt become a milestone for families to track the journey through primary and secondary school.  When we look back over these photos we hope that each child will also have many great memories to reflect on from their beginning in Year Prep to the end of their school life when they finish secondary school.  All our school leaders were also able to proudly represent their area of leadership and have their group photos taken. Next Semester of course we will ensure that photos of Semester Two leaders are taken.

Student Wellbeing

'At St Finbar’s Primary School we hold the care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people as a central and fundamental responsibility of our school.'

                                                                                        St Finbar's Child Safe Policy

Our commitment to our students as outlined in our school policy means that:

We commit to the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people enrolled in our school.

We commit to providing children and young people with positive and nurturing experiences.

We commit to listening to children and young people and empowering them by taking their views seriously, and addressing any concerns that they raise with us.

We commit to taking action to ensure that children and young people are protected from abuse or harm.

We commit to teaching children and young people the necessary skills and knowledge to understand and maintain their personal safety and wellbeing.

We commit to seeking input and feedback from students regarding the creation of a safe school environment.

As a staff we will continually work to improve all aspects of child safety and to futher enable our students to have a voice and input into how we are able to achieve this.

Learning & Teaching

NAPLAN tests have now been completed by students in Year 3 and Year 5.  Catch up tests for any absent students  will be completed on Friday 18th May. Below I have included some feedback from students about how they felt before sitting the NAPLAN Tests and how they felt after they were done.

Before:

Ruby R Year 5: 'Well I felt a little bit nervous, I had quite a few butterflies in my stomach, I felt like I might not do well.

Matthew D Year 5: I felt pretty anxious, like what I would get and how I would do.'

After:

Ruby: 'I feel so much better and I remembered how I felt in Year 3 and it was alright and I did well.'

Matthew: I feel a lot better, I just feel relieved and now I just have tro wait and see what I get.'

Congratulations to all our Year 3 and Year 5 students who have successfully completed 2018 NAPLAN.
