Religious Education

Welcome Mass this morning
In conjunction with our Celebration Week and deepening our family school partnerships, we celebrated our 2020 Welcome Mass this morning. As part of Celebration Week, each student decorated a small rock, which will be used during prayer , throughout the year. This morning these rocks were presented by the Social Justice Leaders of each class and were blessed as part of our Mass celebration. Thank you to those who helped us celebrate Mass this morning.
You are the light of the world. Matt 5:13-16
In the first reading this Sunday, we learn about letting our light shine like the dawn. In this way we are challenged to be people who let our good works give light and hope in a challenging world. We are all called to be like lamps, which are kindled by God. In this way our students can learn to be hope filled and optimistic about the role they can play within the world and be the light of the world.
We pray that each of us at St Finbar's let our light shine to light the world, just as Jesus did.
Religious Education at St Finbar's
Last night at the Information Night, we were asked to introduce ourselves as leaders and give an overview of our role (s). Whilst I wear several hats in my leadership roles, speaking from my Religious Education perspective, I reflected upon the many opportunities on offer to our students , families and staff. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is celebrated in Term 1, for our Year 3 students. In August the Year 6s will participate in the Sacrament of Confirmation and Term 4 sees the Year 4 students make their First Eucharist. Each of these Sacraments consist of Family Faith Nights, commitment and preparation Masses and engaging class units of learning. The other year levels, also participate in Family Faith Nights and a family Mass each semester. Each term starts and finishes with a Mass and we celebrate special occasions throughout the year. Sharing the Catholic traditions with our students in a vibrant and engaging manner ensures an authentic faith experience for each student, their families and the staff. Our social justice program allows our faith to be lived as the children lead our community in many traditional and new initiatives. All of this is woven through the mandated Religious Education curriculum. This year I am looking forward to working with our Faith Team, consisting of Mrs Susan Williams, Miss Amy Lafferty and of course the highly able Year 6 Social Justice Leaders; Mali Davies, Will Schlittler and Sam Russo.
