Principals Report

Dear Parents and Friends,

It is with a heavy heart that I write my final Principal message to our College community.

I have loved every minute of my time as Principal of McGuire College!

I am very sad to say good-bye to the many people I have had the privilege of meeting and working with at McGuire College.  For me, this school has been a vibrant, exciting place to lead as we prepared for the transition to Greater Shepparton College (interim name). Together we emphasized the importance of sharing, supporting each other, looking for positive learning opportunities for everyone and collaborating with the whole school community to embrace robust PLCs and to ensure the wellbeing and engagement needs of every student would be met.

I would like to sincerely thank Jill Clapperton and Richard Bryce for their outstanding contributions and support as our School Council Chairs during my time as Principal.

It has been my privilege to work alongside our Assistant Principals Megan Michalaidis and Anna Sloane, I know they will continue to lead our school with integrity and responsiveness. Thank you both for your openness, your trust and your friendship.

I have been privileged to work alongside all teaching and support staff at McGuire College, our staff members always put students first and I have loved working beside each one of them.

It has been a privilege to be welcomed into the lives of the students and families within our school community -  our fabulous students are hard-working, capable learners and I will miss their friendly, caring and loyal faces and welcomes to school each day.

As announced on Tuesday, the new Principal will be Mr John Sciacca.  John joins us from Nathalia Secondary College where he has been Principal for the past nine years. John is a very experienced educational leader and will be a welcome addition to the McGuire College community. John has vast experience as a skilled Mathematics and Science teacher and Principal. I know that you will make John feel welcome at this outstanding school.

Thank you all for your ongoing support and cooperation. I will miss the exceptional people I have met and will always treasure the many fond memories of the students, parents, family members and staff at McGuire College.

I feel very fortunate to have been part of the McGuire College community and I will cherish the time spent at this school learning with all of you!

Best wishes for a bright future,

Kind regards

Claire Kelly

Mid Year Reports

Over the past couple of weeks, teachers have been writing student reports. Each subject report is in two parts – what the student has achieved and suggestions for improvement in that subject area for the future. These reports will be available online in the first week of Term 3, along with SPA 3 reports.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to discuss both the mid-year and SPA reports with their daughter(s)/son(s). Particular emphasis should be on how the student can improve.

John Hattie, Professor of Education and Director of the Melbourne Education Research Institute, in a recent interview about how parents can best support their children at school, said ‘The biggest effect that parents can have is on their sense of encouragement and expectation for their students’.

If you have any queries about your daughter’s/son’s reports, please do not hesitate to contact their teacher when school resumes in Term 3.
